At the moment I'm in agony cuz I had the 24hr.flu,so I missed a day of meds.
Oh well, get the worst over at the start of the year

Still in sheer agony today,walking is quite difficult.

Still dealing with a bad cold that hit me New Year`s Eve (for me a little cold is like having a bad flu).

On the plus side, the pain in my ribs from the coughing is drowning out all other pain.

Well, I have seen 3 orthopedic surgeons now and there's no help for me.

To anyone who has any sort of joint problem (and I know everyone is different) But I'm being pushed to take cortisone in hopes it will reduce my pain medication intake. The one thing I'm worried about is more damage to my joint over time. Id like some insight from others about their experience with cortisone injections and their personal pros and cons about it. Did you find after 3-6 months that your problem was worst then before the injections? A year later? Would you continue to take it? Is it a life-long solution, because to my understanding, you can only take it for a certain period of time, or it is no good for you. I had surgeon recommend no more then 2 a year because of my age and the potential of needing to get them for many years..

I had one injection assisted by fluoroscope in my right SI joint and it hurt like a s.o.b. for about a week. Then I improved and have never had as much pain as before the injection. I have periods completely free of pain since the injection. It seems the injection helped so that the inflammation was reduced and let my joint heal. This was about 10 years ago so it helped me a great deal.

I also had an injection in a wrist tendon a couple months ago. It hurt a lot for a week, but has improved significantly now. I don't have to wear my wrist brace and am nearly pain free in that tendon.

I recommend trying one joint at a time and giving it some time, a month or so before deciding if it works for you or not. True, you can't do this over a long period of time, but it can help some people. It worked very well for me, but I know people who had no help from a cortisone injection. But be warned, I found it really really hurts about 2 days after the injection and gets less painful after about a week.

Yeah, see my concern is I don't want to something that will hurt me significantly more then it does now, but thank you for your input. I suppose if it kills me I can continue with my pain medication and feel nothing lol I'm just scared, because I had surgery and was told I would be fine to go back to work, full duties, after 2 weeks, and before where I could half-arsed take care of myself and work modified duties, has turned into me being barely able to cook my own meals some days. So, I really am hesitant now to take the plunge into something that, could maybe make things worst or better, a "who knows" sort of outcome, just like my surgery, which turned out really, really badly.

Hope everyone is doing as well as can be expected. I dont have much time for SC this month with the day surgery coming up and several tests ongoing. I am so tired already.......

I'm not a doctor and I don't know what they did in your surgery, but I don't think cortisone can hurt you unless they inject a ridiculous amount (which I'm sure they won't do).

Ok peeps, here's what not to do when you have fibro fog...don't mix up your muscle cream with your hemorrhoid cream...twice! Definitely distracted me from my muscle pain.

I am so sorry for what you have been through and have suffered.
Like you,all that can be done for me is to try and control the pain.
I tried the shots a few times, but as it only gave relief for such a short
time, I decided I would no longer continue. However, everybody is different.

I'm not a doctor and I don't know what they did in your surgery, but I don't think cortisone can hurt you unless they inject a ridiculous amount (which I'm sure they won't do).

There is also sedation to consider too, yet once again everybody is different. I would suggest you make an inormed decision by reading up on it as much as you can.

Thank you Skippy. I have read equal amounts of stuff on good and bad things about cortisone, so I`m still on the fence, I may try 1 shot and see how it goes. If it only lasts 3 months or less, it isn`t worth it to me, my orthopedic surgeon suggested no more then 2 a year, but weather or not it lasts me 6 months would be a different story.

My mom has been having injections in her knee, has only been temporary relief. It does help quite a bit, but you have to keep getting them done.

I haven't had a lot of time in past few weeks on SC. I did a lot and became reallly exhausted over the holidays. I have been in a lot of pain lately and have a lot of fatigue and pain. Having some old symptoms reappear that I am not happy with, so it's back to the doc to see if things have come back again.

It's easy to get caught up in things because we don't want to miss out on
absolutely everything. But unfortunately everything has its price afterwards. Hope you feel better soon.
