I usually take a boiled egg for my afternoon snack. Great when you find soon to expire eggs for a kick butt price. I boil them all on Sunday for the week.

Our oldest son will start kindergarten in a nut free school in September. He will be attending a full day, every other day. I have been figuring out different foods that he would like in his lunch. I now know that he does not like cheese strings. We like to bake a lot with nuts, so I'll have to bake different treats specifically for sending to school. His kindergarten teacher has a cookie program for afternoon snack, so that means that I will have a designated amount of cookies to bake and bring to school for the entire class to have one month. It also means that I won't have to pack anafternoon snack.

Quite the list you have made! My boys school typically will not let them use the microwave. If your son's school will not you could always invest in a food jar. Bought one for mine this year but decided on an adult sized one as it can hold more!

Great lunch Ideas Angela, I too recommend a good quality lunch thermos. After volunteering to do lunch room for 10 years I can tell you that if 10 kids in the class bring something to microwave that takes two minutes each, that is 20 minutes of their allotted eating time gone. The little ones are slow to eat and then add the time it takes to get them all dressed in cold weather clothes in the winter they pretty much get outside and it is time to come in. So many parents work and yes the microwaving of leftovers is the easiest way to go to pack lunches but it is time consuming. A good quality thermos will take your little one right through to grade eight, mine did. Left over soups, stews, chili are a few ideas, my sons favorite was spaghetti and meatballs, another one was chili with nacho chips to dunk, I would also send sloppy joes in the thermos and he would spoon it out on to his bun. I think my granddaughter brought mushroom soup and meat cheese and crackers every day for grade 2! Make sure it is a wide mouth one for the little guy to handle getting all his food out!

Sad that summer is coming to an end but excited to be organized and prepared for back to school lunches
I have a Rubbermaid bin full of snacks I have stocked us up on to last till New year. I am stocking up on boneless skinless chicken since I can make so many healthy meals for DS for his school lunch. No processed meat for us. Then I just have to buy weekly sales of fresh fruit and veggies etc. I am organizing all my lunch containers this week so I am ready (we send litterless lunches)
I am going to even try to send DS with a mason jar taco salad! I'm hoping he loves it

Our son's school has a milk program, where we can pay for a punch card for him to have milk at lunch time. I don't know the cost yet. For those who pack milk to school, what container do you use? I'm concerned about it leaking if I were to go this route. I'm pretty sure Dh would prefer that I pack cheese or yogurt and buy the milk card as an additional option.

I paid for the milk program for a 2 month period when kids were young. I found it a waste because I can send milk cheaper (I use the Rubbermaid litterless juice box for drinks) If they are sick/away you don't get a refund and sometimes he just wouldn't get it.
