Well, I've coveted one of these plants for a long, long time, so I finally found a small one and sucked up the exorbitant price tag and got one.

Hopefully, he likes his new home and will bring me some pretty flowers. Problem is, the garden center didn't know what color the blooms will be. It is a surprise plant.

This one is a fairly common color, but I'd be happy with any color.

Bumblebees are keen to find flowering anything esp. on cooler days (like the past three Octobers and the only flowers still left on stalks I had not cut down). Try petting your local bumblebee when it's busy with nectar. Lovely flower bush btw!

One of the mysteries of dandelions-I cut grass last Tuesday and many under the blade dandelions remained intact. Move to Friday/Saturday-I see tall stalks with puffballs instead of flowers on the side of the lawn. Some of the front yard lower flowers are still yellow but some are not. How fast do those flowers shift gears and grow?

I passed under a magnolia tree on my way to big box land-the branches were over the fence and public sidewalk. The blooms were about 2/3 of what they were in full bloom but the warm sun prompted the flower fragrance to drift like perfume in the air. Petals were dropping off in the gentle breeze--how I wished I had a cellphone camera!

Just yesterday there was a bumblebee buzzing around my front yard, he was about the size of a small aircraft. I have no idea how those guys remain in the air, seems to defy the laws of gravity.

I love the magnolia trees too, Ciel. My favorite is the yellow. It's a shame the blooms don't last longer.

The lawn has some growing with reddish tinge on top-goldenrod? Plus lots of those little purple flowers (violets?).
I have some poppy seeds to sow later when weather is more settled-would like to ensure some flowers come up in June or July.
A new plant is about to flower where we had the basil and parsley last year. Not sure if Mom sowed the plant or it self-sowed-flower looks familiar. Also seems we will have double peonies in the front flower bed-a transplant from the backyard.

I can't tell you the last time I've seen one, probably when I was still back in BC. I couldn't even tell you if they grow in Ontario, although I'm sure they must.
    Yes they do.

Magnolia bush, Purple Sand Cherry, Bleeding Heart and Jack In The Pulpit. Hostas, Seedums and Mums are showing green of varying heights.

I have all of the bolded ones I used to have an ornamental quince but I ripped that sucker out last year and replaced it with a golden spruce-type bush-type thingie. Sorry, had a long day yesterday and the vocabulary ain't what it should be. Anyway, too many suckers coming up on the quince, started taking over the area so I got rid of it. Replaced it with a white azalea. And I saw that there is still a mini quince growing right at the fence between my yard and the neighbor. The catalpa is finally budding as is the rose of sharon. Ahh shade. Sorry grass, you lose.

Has anyone had any luck growing blueberries? A local friend said she's tried off and on for the past decade with no results.

I've never tried but my parents have them and have masses of berries every year. The only thing about blueberries that I know is you have to have two different varieties planted close to each other to successfully grow berries. Something about the pollination.

I have a clump of these guys blooming right now. They're cute but they spread like wild fire. Every spring I'm yanking up new plants that are spreading farther than I'm willing to let them.
