Thread: Ontario green energy - SCAM allert

Just wanted to let everyone know that there's a scam going on. You may receive a knock on your door or a phone call from people saying they're from Ontario green energy to set up an appointment to inspect your furnace on behalf of direct energy. They want to gain access to your house and intentionally find something wrong with it or your a/c unit to sell you a new furnace or a/c unit that you don't need. Direct energy is NOT part of this program. They are extremely pushy and convincing. BEWARE!!!! Do not let them in your house. Please let your elderly family and friends know as they are usually the targets.

I'd find it very fishy if they came to my door... I live in New Brunswick.

They knock on my door weekly despite the NO SOLICITING sign on the front door.

I'll have a word with family and consider putting a Post-It note on the front door. Since sibling had to wrangle Dad to do paperwork to move off an energy contract to go back to Union Energy, I'm not keen on a repeat contract anything signed at the front door.
Thanks for the alert. We got something in the mail regarding solar panels and someone keeps robo-calling at a set time. Mom denies requesting said panels but the caller keeps asking for her. So, let calls ring through to voice mail or don't answer the door/phone if distracted.2021-Bring on the sunshine, sweets & online shopping.

Never answer the residence line here. If important they can leave a message and rarely do. People know my mobile is the contact number for me.

Welcome to the forum OP.
Offer on the phone? Just tell them to mail it so you can look over it and discuss with your utility company. Do not give your name and address. They SHOULD know it, already. If they are pushy and desperate, hang up.
Offer at the door? Just tell them to leave you with the written information. If they are pushy, have excuses why not, seem desperate to make the sale, tell then not to come back again and shut the door. Report it to your utility. If very aggressive, report them to the police.
Easy peasy.

I answer the door as I have a no soliciting sign and start to talk in a foreign language or when they call I say "hello?, hello, hello, hello? no speak English" ....seems to get rid of the calls as they think I am hard of hearing and don't speak English. I hear them get very frustrated on the other line as they keep repeating what they are saying. After I say "no speak English" I hang up.
Thanks for the heads up about another scam.
The "there is something wrong with your computer" calls keeps going around and I tell them I don't own a computer.Last edited by barbis9; Fri, Jun 9th, 2017 at 09:11 AM.
