I donated at a Value Village yesterday and the staff refused to punch my donor card because the cards expire on the 31st. It was the 21st. They also didn't give out the $5 book coupons that were advertised on posters in the store (I have my doubts that they ran out!). I would have donated anyway because I wanted the stuff out of the house but the excuse given about the card was just ridiculous. Argh.

You'd think they would have offered to start a new card for you that doesn't expire til next year at least. Clearly, they don't understand the finer points of the calendar and how to read it.

Easy fix. Take your stuff to the Salvation Army, or somewhere else.

I take all my stuff to Fripe-Prix because they have a room off the parking lot and you can just dump your bag there. Value Village is too far from me, and the parking is usually crazy.

It must be your location. I donate last week and they gave me the 2018 card.

Goodwill still exists in some communities plus school boards and hospital volunteers run clothing closets for students/patients in need of apparel. There are also church groups that collect winter coats that get given out to people needing them. Lots of options.
OP has a point-it was not the last day of the year. If the store was not following policy on cards, there should have been some notice explaining why not. Or is the VV way of saying we suspend our policies due to Christmas/Boxing Day period?2021-Bring on the sunshine, sweets & online shopping.

I was asked if I have a 30% discount yesterday because I questioned why cashier needed my telephone number at the till (as the Super Savers program ended). It seems staff are checking customer accounts to see if they have 100 or more Super Saver points to use up in the first 60 days of 2018.
I only have 25 pts so no discount. For some reason I thought it was a senior's discount but it was the wrong day (Friday) and I'm not a senior.2021-Bring on the sunshine, sweets & online shopping.

i donated to my local VV a few months ago and the person who took my stuff told me that the donor's card never expires even though there's an expiry date on it. I think they should get rid of the expiry date to encourage more donation and to show their appreciation to their donors. Plus their prices in the stores are already way too high - check out the complaints on their FB page. They are getting the stuff for $0 then marked them up to sell back to customers. I understand they have to pay for the location, staffing, etc.
I take my stuff to other organization like one recently started in my area calls H.E.A.R.T. where they let people shop for FREE and everyone is welcomed. Store is organized and clean. Free stuff come in and free stuff come out. H.E.A.R.T. was featured on global tv https://www.google.ca/url?sa=t&rct=j...62fewW50CR_oHo

I noticed that the VV website for Super Savers has not change the reference to Canada for the signup page.
When I purchased a sewing pattern at the Burlington Fairview store, the receipt (at the top) indicated that 2018 donor cards are now available. Find it curious that the first 50% off clothing sale for January is on January 22. Last year, it was on the first Sunday/Monday in January.
Talize just concluded a 30% off coupon offer for donated clothing at its stores. https://www.talize.com/events/2018/1/2/donation-drive-12021-Bring on the sunshine, sweets & online shopping.
