Section of the DVP closed due to flooding

Not an ideal way to start the Friday commute. All the rain and flooding had forced a partial closure of the south bound DVP. Rain coupled with melting snow meant some heavy flooding - forcing the closure of the DVP between Bayview/Bloor to the Gardiner/Lakeshore. The good news is all north and south bound lanes are open now. Several vehicles were stranded overnight because of all the standing water.

Special weather statement in effect

Speaking of water, expect to see a lot of it over the next 12-hours or so. A special weather statement is in effect as freezing rain mixed with snow is expected right through the day. Those conditions mean roads & sidewalks are likely to freeze over, so drivers & pedestrians are being warned to take their time. All school buses for the York Region and York Catholic District school boards have been cancelled for the day. Don’t expect the mild temperatures to stick around either -- with the mercury dropping all the way to minus 12 by tonight.
