Today's is Holiday issue day! Bagged edition with Canada Post's Flex Delivery card plus Leon's Hello Holiday magazine (contains recipe for roasted balsamic cranberry crostini, ingredient list for celebratory sangria, and mention to see their website for directions plus instructions on the peppermint bath scrub too). Hello Holiday editor's striped blouse scores fashion points with me-the waterfall ruffle, the big cuffs, the big yellow stripes-wow factor (adding that to my sewing list of projects...).

Inside: p. 38 has some food tips for healthy hosting
p.43 holiday drinks include a green Mistletoe Margarita but that Hisbicus tea punch in coupe glasses looks posh!
p.51 After Midnight-food ideas for dining after ringing in the New Year
p.55 Ciot ad for their gold tiles on wall (aspirational decor idea).

There are holiday roasts, some cookies or crackers, and I see Warm Green Lentils as a side dish with extra things to make it rich. Winter issue of F&D will be out on January 11 and will have Seoul Food (in recognition of the 2018 Winter Games to be held in South Korea).

Inside the print edition (English) picked up at my local store, there's a small Starbucks mini-brochure with two coupons on the back page: $2 off any Starbucks packaged coffee or K-Cup & $1 off any pack of Starbucks Via Instant. Both coupons expire on March 31, 2018 and are for grocery store purchases. Plus there are three coffee beverage recipes provided.

Recipewise, I like the idea of a Hawaiian sheet pan pizza but as it is no-knead dough, that means a 12-18h resting period before using the dough (our house is on the cool side so the dough would not rise too much but warmer homes may anticipate monster dough rising like the Stay-Puft marshmallow character from the Ghostbusters movies). I may prefer to knead the dough and let it rise. Keen to try the tomato sauce that uses San Marzano tomatoes.

Next issue will be out on March 14, three days after we are back on Daylight Savings Time in Ontario.

*Update-there is a beers and burgers feature titled Dyanmic Duos. Two of Lindt Chocolate ads feature dessert recipes (Pink Peppercorn Chocolate Mousse & 70% Cacao Chocolate Cheesecake). There's another advertiser that provides a Herbed Lemon Roast Lamb recipe near the back of the magazine.

Of the savoury maple dishes, Maple Bacon Onion Tarte Tatin seems curious! I'd like to try the Cumin-Roasted Carrots with White Wine Glaze but I have to get some white wine for it.

The Kitchen Essentials page at the back discusses perfect scrambled eggs.

While the Gin & Tonic Bundt cake sounds tasty, I am not keen on the lime rind process to make the topping for the cake. I do like the Asian chicken in a bundle recipe with cherries and the appetizer with mortadella, pistachio pesto and artichokes may actually stand a chance of being made. I will cut and paste beer and wine products to a page for LCBO store runs.
When I read through the suggested Victoria Day menu, I thought of the Victoria and Abdul movie!

I purchased a Snapple RaspCherry Tea Spiked vodka (sale $2.70, 25cent savings) yesterday in order to get my magazine issue. I was surprised at how good the beverage was (I don't like regular vodka but love iced tea in a can and fruit flavours) with my leftover pasta salad mixed with leftover curried vegetables. A future purchase will be the peach version of the beverage.

Next issue: Summer will be in stores on June 27.
