That's a great way to think of it, kiwis-mom! I got a check today from insurance. It was a claim for an eye check-up that I had last spring for which I just randomly found the receipt, while filing. It's hardly extra money, since I paid originally for the appointment, but since I had forgotten all about it-it's like "found money" now.

Here's that article about can collecting in rural areas and questions that it inspired in the writer (since the cans seem to be found mostly on one side of the road): https://www.thespec.com/opinion-stor...pty-beer-cans/

Love this article! I didn't even know we could return cans in Ontario. Where do we take them? Is it just beer cans? So many questions!

We picked enough cans and bottles to buy a QUAD. We have a family cabin and knew where the teenagers partied in the woods so would go out there Saturday and Sunday mornings and “clean up”.

I remember collecting bottles and cans as a kid. I still enjoy doing it. I've always loved walking and I try to keep a grocery bag in my jacket pocket, to make it easy to collect any bottles and cans that I might find. I put them in our garage and we eventually return them to SARCAN, which is the only option in SK (with the exception of beer bottles that you can return to the LBS). Our 5yr old son has already learned that they are worth money.
I am continuing to sell items in our local garage sale Facebook groups. So far in March I have earned $83. In fact, someone is supposed to buy stuff from me later today.Help me out with Swagbucks and we can both earn gift cards and PayPal money

Yup people think "oh it's only .10c whatever" but as a kid we had a place called The Sand Pit were everyone would go to party and then just leave the empties on the beach. We would collect hundred of $$$ worth a day. Mom put that money straight into a savings account for us at the time - that's how we learned to start saving. So to all those people who say "Oh it's only .10c whatever" yes, you are correct, it is only .10c - keep throwing it away!!!!
Oh and at that time (this was DECADES ago LOL) cans were only .05c each not .10c so that created even more of a "meh" from people but it also meant double the amount to collect and take in! We would literally be taking multiple car loads a day to the local vendor LOL.
Ah the memories!Last edited by coupongirl99; Thu, Mar 22nd, 2018 at 12:31 AM.

@spanishpoet- beer cans and plastic and glass alcohol bottles (also wine tetra boxes or bladders) all go back for refunds to your local Beer Store. The LCBO stores don't do returns for empties.
