Due to provincial regulatory changes and the issue of stopping wave action in order to test swimmers' abilities, the Hamilton Conservation Authority now requires youth visitors in the 10 and under category to wear life jackets.
She said the authority purchased 750 life jackets for about $25,000 and the hope is people older than 10 who aren’t strong swimmers will also use them. The life-jacket policy will apply to the Wild Waterworks wave pool, slides and Eazy River. The regulations also require any child 10 and under to be within arm’s reach of a guardian or designated person who is at least 16.
There must be one such person for every two children under six and one for every eight kids aged six to 10.
