Snowblowers are Gods gift to urban dwellers.
Make sure that he uses fresh gas and not something that has been sitting around for a while.
It might be a good idea to change the spark plug as well.
Always let the blower warm up for about 2 minutes before you use it.
Make sure that if it needs 50:1 oil mixture that you mix it properly and always use premium gas.
It works best with this and has never failed me in the last 27 years.
My blower started on just two pulls and worked the whole while without a gas refill.
Just an aside, this also applies to lawn mowers, chain saws and leaf blowers and anything that works on an 50:1 oil mix ratio

Hicks, this has to be one of the most innovative posts that I have ever seen.
It's brilliant.
I showed this to my wife and she also thought that this was great.
She decided to put this sign up on our snow covered lawn.
Right now the snow is about 3 feet deep.
Maybe I'll be able to have 2 feet removed and make enough to buy some more beer.
Not!!
Fun anyways.Last edited by zfurman; Thu, Dec 27th, 2012 at 05:37 PM.

I happen to like fruit cake it is packed with delicious flavour,
Fruits soaked in brandy, rum (or both) may be an acquired taste to savour,
I despised it when I was growing up; Mum made one every year,
She made it a couple of months in advance & her efforts were so sincere,
Cranberries, cherries, currents, pecans & molasses,
How is it those wholesome ingredients can be dissed by the general masses?
Topped with marizpan icing & you know it lasts for a very long time,
& who else but your old friend Loocie would commemorate fruit cake in a rhyme?
Making them takes dedication & might I say quite an expense,
I've even heard consuming fruit cake can make one far less tense,
So when the kettle whistles, I'll make us a pot of tea,
Please stop by here anytime & enjoy a slice with me!

These are all relatively new to me. I learned about the lawn mower & chain saw when I bought this house, almost 3 years ago now. Wow, how time flies.
These were some of my late husband's responsibilities, so I've had to learn.
Luckily, we haven't had much snow the last couple, so I just shovel.
Like I said, not difficult, but more I'm more comfortable being shown first.
So far the hardest part, is starting those damn machines with the pull starters.
Wrecks my shoulder for days.

I'm jealous. You know, you could have invited me, even last minute.
I could have been ready in about 10 min. flat. lol I hear from a friend who's there now, that it's not very warm. Shame, but @ least there's no snow.
Enjoy yourself, & bring back some heat please.Last edited by 22hicks; Thu, Dec 27th, 2012 at 04:52 PM.

Make sure that you have engaged the choke.
Also depress the primer 3 times and hold it in for at least 3 seconds in each time.
This should guarantee a quick start for you. You should not have to pull too hard to start the machine.
Don't over do the pulling!! Three pulls, no more.
if the engine starts, disengage the choke.
If it doesn't work, wait 5 minutes and try it again.
If you smell gasoline, you may have flooded it. If this is the case, remove the spark plug, clean it off and re-insert it in 5 minutes.
Good luckLast edited by zfurman; Thu, Dec 27th, 2012 at 07:43 PM.

I have taken precautions regarding any unexpected early demise and have taught my wife to do the things that I normally have done.
She has become quite self sufficient in handling all the problems that might arise if I pass unexpectantly.
Pre-warned is pre-armed has always been my credo.
I really hope that she won't have to worry about any of this for some time to come.
Cheers.

There is a rubber coated wire leading from the engine to the spark plug.
disconnect it.
You should have recieved a Spark plug removal tool with the original installation tools.
If unable to find this, a 11/16 or 13/16 wrench in any tool kit will do the job.
Use ratchet wrench in reverse to remove the spark plug.
If the plug looks greasy or covered in soot, then replace it.
Take the plug to a local store like Canadian Tire and they will be able to provide you with a replacement.
Put the new plug in and repeat the starting process that I previously explained to you.
Doing this, you should be good to go.
A new plug will do the trick to making the blower work efficiently again.
Any problems, get back to me and I will try to help you out.
