Thread: Walmart's Rain Check Policy
-

I had a very frustrating trip to Walmart last night. I went to get an item from the flyer that ended that night, and they were out (I had been in on Monday, and they were out then too).
I went to Customer Service desk to get a raincheck (I have done this at the same store before. The CSR would NOT give me a raincheck. Apparently store policy is to not give rainchecks for sale items - only for 'Everyday Low Price' items. I tried to argue that there was no point in getting a raincheck if they were out of an item and it was regular price, but she said that was the policy.
It was late, and I had a babysitter at home, so it wasn't worth taking another half hour to argue and having to pay the sitter more.
Does anyone know if this is the new policy? I've never heard this before. BTW - the item did NOT say limited quantities or while supplies last - they have it on sale every few months (it was the Pampers UnderJams)
Also, if someone could PM me with an email address to complain to / ask about this policy, that would be great.

only tried to get one once... asked the grocery manager for the refridgerated jell-o... he said it didn't come in but I could get a rain check at CS... went there and asked for one... and was told they don't do rainchecks. I said um, the grocery MANAGER just sent me here to get one... well we don't do rainchecks. So I said it again, and then all of sudden out came the book of rain checks and she gave me one. I thought it was actually kind of humorous.

Some items are marked as special puchase. I have a feeling they do that so that they won't have to issue rain checks. You know the whole limited quantity thing?

I think it's once again a case of which clerk you get. I've never heard of the 'it's only Monday, come back again' thing. I don't have a car, to go out to Bayers Lake on the bus only to find they don't have the &%$@ thing, WTH should I have to come back another day? I'm here now, if you don't have it, give me the raincheque to use at my convenience. Otherwise, keep it.
This is one reason I don't shop at Zellers all that much. At least a few years ago, they would NEVER have stock on their sale items, even if you got there on the morning the sale started. Superstore is bad on this for their meat sales here too.

I had this problem with Wal Mart not that long ago. They told me I had to be there on the last day of the sale. I told them that was crazy. I had two babies and getting out was tricky enough without having to plan on being there on the last day. I politely asked for a manager and then handed the supervisor that came my flyer which clearly states:
"While it's our intention tohave every advertised item in stock, occasionally an item may not be available due to unforeseen difficulties. In such cases, we'll issue you a rain check (at your request) so you may buy the item at the advertised price when it comes available. Or if you prefer, we'll sell you a similar item at a comparable price. Rainchecks are not available for Limited Time Offer items because quantites are limited and available only while supplies last."
They can't really argue with THEIR PRINTED POLICY which appears in each and every flyer they issue. It does not state you have to be there later in the week to get a raincheck. Check your flyer and point this out. Rainchecks aea PITA for whoever is filling them out, they will do everything possible to avoid them. Stand your ground! Good Luck!

What is the point in getting a raincheck for 'Everyday Low Price' items? I had the same line fed to me when they had run out on Campbell's soup at $0.50 a week back. I was fed up with the service and fact that most advertised items were out of stock by 2PM that I left and price-matched at Superstore five minutes away.
