P = Permanent Postage Stamp .
Right now the domestic postage is 57 cents ( upto 30 gm ) but every year they seem to increase that postage .
So if you buy a P stamp it doesn't say 57 cents on it & next year if they increase the postage to 59 cents you can still just attach the P stamp you don't have to keep on buying 1 or 2 cents stamps to compensate for the increase .
But if you buy a 57 cent stamp ( not that its available ) as opposed to a P stamp you have to keep on adding a few cents here & there every time domestic postage goes up for a standard letter ( upto 30 gm )

Thanks for this dictionary. It's coming in very handy. The abbreviation I was looking for was always on this list.

I have one I have been noticing recently, what is "FPC" ? Would that be "Free Product Coupon" by any chance?
