Quaker quick oats 2.5kg-$4.69-$4.00=$0.69
Neilson 3.25% milk 2L- Reg $3.99, clearance for $1.49*6=$8.49
bag of apples-reg $2.49, clearance for $0.99 (see below)
Total Spent=$10.62
Total Saved=$20.50
The Quaker coupon was from a trade and looked like it may have come from the company. The milk was on clearance because it expires in the next few days. Milk freezes beautifully though so I've got 2 cartons in the fridge and 4 in the freezer.
The apples were close to spoiling so I turned them into 12 jars of applesauce for the baby (one's not pictured, he already ate it). Each jar cost only $0.08 to make but would have cost me $0.77 to buy so I saved another $8.28 by doing it myself. This thread is currently associated with: No Frills

I freeze cheese with no side effects other than it gets a tiny bit crumbly but I didn't know you could freeze milk successfully.....do you find when it thaws it is noticably different in any way?

Great deals! I didn't know that you could freeze milk. Thanks for the tip. Also a great idea for the apples you bought.

Great savvy shopping Rachel1496! I have never froze milk before but have froze butter and cheese and as Cheapnik points out, the cheese just gets a bit crumbly but perfect for recipes that call for shredded cheese! Nice idea with the apple sauce too! If my son would eat the stuff (he has textural isses due to his autism), we'd have it as a staple in our house. Congrats on your thrifty haul!

Yeah, Colin's not big on sharing. It was the first time he's had applesauce with cinnamon though, I don't think he's ever going back to the jarred stuff. My house smells so good right now.
Aliciax, I wouldn't freeze it in the carton, just because of the possibilty of freezer burn but if you transferred it to an airtight container with enough space for it to expand you'll be fine. My mom goes on vacation a couple times a year and if she has milk left before she goes she just puts it in an old juice bottle and freezes it in there.

I've noticed that if you free marble cheese it doesn't crumble when you thaw it out. I have no idea why but it works.

Great buys! Milk freezes perfectly! We've done it since my grandson switched from formula to milk. I do my main grocery shopping once a month so we buy all our milk at once and freeze it. Like mentioned above - just take it out and let it thaw completely before using and it's perfectly fine. We buy milk on discount and a lot and do it this way.
