..have ribs cooking in the oven, thinking about making fried rice with lots of veggies to go with it
Oh I think having prime Rib as an option for take out is awesome!! So glad you got to really enjoy that meal @Natalka ....the last 2 days have sure been yucky for you. DH knows what he's doing....bless him!
Still so full from our company Potluck today and could probably skip dinner but I need to eat so I can take my antibiotics so going to have some Kale Salad and going to heat up some Naan to go with it to cushion my stomach
Using up what was in the fridge as well... so I made a chicken vegetable soup.
Son was over, so we tried a new-to-us place that we have wanted to for a while. Home care had long ago recommended them to me, because everything is homemade.
So we ordered two of the burger specials with poutine - six oz patties, so yummy, loaded with sauteed mushrooms real cheese homemade buns, homemade fries with awesome gravy.
Also got the family meal special which was perogies in mushroom dill sauce, with baked ham. Boy it was good!
The latter had to be heated, so whilst it was in the oven we shared the burger meals. There is enough of the family meal for supper tomorrow.
Burger specials were $11, family meal was $25. So impressed with quality and amount of food, we will def try out more from there.
--sorry, I end up reviewing stuff!
..one of my friends is having a girls nite starting this evening around 6:30ish...dress code is favorite pj's and slippers :-)...its finger foods, etc, I haven't decided yet what I'm making, maybe a dip, maybe wings or pizza...but the wine is chilling....HAPPY FRIDAY!!
Today it my anual feeding frenzy of CNE style back bacon on a bun. My wife took a run down to the markham area today and picked us up 2 Canadian Style Back Bacon roasts and we will slice them up and freeze them in layers seperated with wax paper so we will only have to take out so much at a time.
Gotta love back bacon on a bun :)
Last night was a mixed bag, two-tier supper since I hadn't eaten much during the day. So around five I had some wonton soup, BBQ pork chop suey, and df shrimp - not like for a full meal. Then around eight, had leftover ham and perogies.
Beef stew and fresh bread
rigatoni and bread
We are breaking out the turkey fryer on tuesday anyways and we are have a few people over tonight so i thougt i would do a few rounds of deep fried wings (hooters style) with vegis and dip.
It's Tibb's Eve and Football Sunday!!! could it be any better?!?! Lots of friends and holiday cheer today....I have various dips, cheese/meat trays and oven appetizers to cook accordingly, etc...I'm making pizza shortly to heat up later and lots of wings...cheers!
Swiss Chalet beef pot pie... meh
Veal cutlets, fries, mixed veggies, garlic toast.
Oh, appie was Hawaiian pizza, lol!
Tonight ( Christmas Eve ) is the FUN night! We start noshing around 5 p.m. and some of us ( not me :bawling: ) will drink a little, the food is mostly appy's and there will be plenty! Then we do the countdown till one minute after midnight and tear into our gifts!

This house has shift workers and everyone is on their own crazy sleep schedules so trying to get anyone up to open gifts in the a.m. is pointless....but that leaves me all the alone time I require on the 25th to prep for the dinner.
Things are a little different this year ( just for me though, no one else will be suffering....ha ha )
I have so many lovely veggie options at the ready for our Christmas day meal so as everyone else is feasting on the heavy carbs ( spuds, dressing, gravy ) I'll be happily selecting from the options that fit my eating plan which include:
- grilled baby bok choy
- sauteed yogurt dipped & crumbed slices of baby eggplant
- green beans sauteed lightly in sesame oil with toasted almond garnish
- pan browned large sliced Portabella Mushroom caps that were soaked in wine and sprinkled with a powdered herb mixture of garlic/onion/nutmeg/cayenne pepper.
- Mashed cauliflower ( my " potatoes " )
- roasted heirloom carrots ( purple,yellow,white )
- regular carrots also roasted
- tri colour mini bell peppers roasted.
- I am allowed SOME squashes now, so there will be Butternut and acorn ( roasted )
- 2 kinds of sweet potato, the white ( purplish peel ) and the orange ( copper colour peel )
( I may indulge in a couple of each pieces )
Since I'm allowed free reign on most lean meats I've decided to serve the Gobble Gobble guy along with a prime rib Roast & something I personally won't have ( high salt! ) an apple/sausage stuffed pork loin ( Marc Angelo )
Lets see who leaves the table first!!
Munchies here tonight, kind of a xmas eve tradtion
We will be having:
baked whitefish (so glad we could find some this year!)
Pyrohy (perogies)
mushroom gravy
Lazy holubtsi (better than nothing, first year I have been unable to make cabbage rolls)
Marinated vegetables
Poppyseed roll
Turkey and ham with assorted vegis
Merry Christmas everyone
Last night was Christmas at Dad's which consisted of:
Sauerbraten (it is basically a pickled roast)
Potatoes
Potato Dumplings
Carrots
Peas
Red Cabbage
3 Bean Salad
Prior to the meal my Step Mom covered their coffee table (and a chair or 2, we ran out of room) with appetizers there were 7 different cheese, various meats (mostly different salami) Artichoke Dip with Naan and various crackers to go with it all.
Then we had dessert which was me, I made Lemon Butter Cake (which is actually a lemon cake topped with a cheesecake layer) and an Apple Crisp Cheesecake with option caramel sauce.
Since we have our main big meal Christmas Eve, on the 25th we have what we call a snackie supper:
Quiche tarts (w/lotsa bacon)
Layered dip
Assortment of crackers
Shrimp, cocktail sauce
Smoked oysters
Double smoked farmers' sausage
Ham garlic sausage
Maple cured baked ham
Cheeses
Then I was the only one who had some marinated veggies.
THESE were my colourful veggies for our Christmas Day meal...
update:
Oh dang it to Betsy! I just realized that my bowl of gorgeous grilled baby bok choy and the roasted mini bell peppers did not make it into the photo!! :(
Well JUST imagine them there......ha ha
Wow, that looks delish @walkonby!
Christmas Day dinner here was;
Vegetarian ribs
mashed potatoes
garlic green beans
coleslaw (packaged shredded coleslaw mix, homemade dressing)
homemade cranberry sauce (from dried cranberries)
ice cream
Italian cookies, macarons, shortbread cookies, cinnamon swirl mini-cakes
This was a new coleslaw dressing recipe and really delish - will replace my previous recipe. And it's the first time I made cranberry sauce from dried cranberries (used Craisins). It was so good I made a bigger batch after dinner to keep handy.
Tonight we will have a turkey shepherds pie from the leftovers.
Leftovers from yesterday
Husband had dry garlic ribs and Texas toast.
I had a half order honey garlic baby back ribs, fries and gravy, mixed veggies.
we had a big dinner at my parents last night, my younger sister cooked the whole dinner: 2 beef rib roasts with gravy, 1 chicken roasted with another gravy, roasted mini carrots and parsnip, cheese buns made from scratch, roasted fingerling potatoes, and brookies for dessert.
tonite we had beef steaks, mashed potatoes and gravy, spring salad with pears and raspberry vinaigrette
..it been a wonderful, beautiful Christmas....so much food, good friends and cheer...the fridge is full of turkey & ham leftovers, salads, cookies & pies, munching through it all...
