Thread: What's For Dinner?

its gonna be a cabin kind of weekend, so today will be a cooking marathon so I can have it out of the way and enjoy the weekend..I'm making beef stew, chili and cod au gratin..add some fresh rolls, bread...(save some chili for nachos), Juicy Jumbo's ..I learned this neat trick for cooking fries on the wood stove (no electricity at the cabin!!)--for some reason the frozen crinkle cut works best..take a piece of non-stick aluminium foil and make a basket, add the fries, lay on top of a hot wood stove, turn occasionally until crispy, season, then top with crumbled bacon, green onion and grated cheese ..let the cheese melt mix through (a dollop of chili is good on it too)..yummo!!

Still sick, at the point where coughing so much my stomach is bugging me, so food is not a high priority. Thinking I might just make some oven fries and nibble on those.

Probably left overs or grilled cheese,
I wasn't on cooking detail & nobody said please.
I did make an Applesauce Spice Cake & that constitutes dessert,
Maybe I sent out a APB here saying this is a dinner-is-needed-alert,
I'm not really that hungry & I can't get to thrilled about putting any effort at all,
If anyone is looking for me, you find me upstairs in the room at the end of the hall.
p.s. my #1 son is coming over for a quick visit & the bulk of the cake is for his family.

Clean out the fridge night. Roast chicken, spaghettini, hashbrown casserole, macaroni salad, cranberry sauce, real fruit and veggie juice, and milk. Still some leftovers, but that was the variety. I ate a lot of veggies and fruit at work today, so I'm good with this for now. I'll need a snack later anyway.

Pot roast and roasted veggies - potato wedges, mushrooms, onions, celery, carrots - w/oil, s+p, garlic powder, paprika and Italian seasoning.
I didn't make the roast - bought it from the deli at Safeway yesterday, have never done that before - they have an entree special each day of the week.
Thought at first, wow it was small - it came au jus, and once I sliced it thinly and heated it up today, there was plenty of meat for the two of us, and a bit left.
I was blown away by how tender and juicy it was, very flavourful. It was $9 (regular $11), so it was pricey, but it's been months since we had beef so we both enjoyed it. Would love to know what cut it was.
