We had cabbage rolls (to those of you with Eastern European, holubschi) and perogies (again, pyrohy). Wish us Finns could make tasty morsels like that, but alas, we are stuck with delicacies such as fish head soup (kalamojakka) :(
Tonight was "international night" at our house. International is just a nice way of saying leftovers ;) I pan fried potatos and added homeade chili to the top and grated cheese melted ontop. Easy peasy and hubs was happt :)
leftover greek meat sauce mmm
DQ blizzard for dessert (smarties/oreo/hot fudge)
I'm Ukrainian, so obviously love pyrohy and holubtsi (cool that you know those words!). Just did a google tour of Finnish recipes - some sound just yummy!
Interestingly, when I was growing up my parents were huge herring fans. My Baba used to make a herring sauce once a year to have with the meatless Christmas Eve Holy Supper - my mom also later made it, and I remember it being SO yummy. I have the recipe but haven't made it myself - it's very time-consuming, so I've always procrastinated trying it. But you know, my teen son worked a few summers at the Norwegian Folkfest pavilion here in the summers, and totally fell in love with herring and onion on rye bread, so I know he wouldn't be averse to trying herring sauce (he loves all types of fish).
You know what, I'm GOING to make that sauce this Christmas!!!
Well...it was going to be whatever DH felt like making when he got home from work tonight (its been one of THOSE days)...but he's off the hook, since the world's greatest neighbour just dropped off a casserole for us! The only downer is that it means pasta for the third night in a row. Lol.
The continuation of box week in an attempt to empty the freezer a bit. Mini chickenpot pies, stouffers BBQ chicken and Bistro Fusilli. LOL I had the 1 remaining hamburger from the BBQ.
Mini teriyaki steaks with warm buttered mashed jacket :lolsign: potatoes (sweet potatoes ;) )
Soup and hotdogs. Sheesh!
After walking around the farmers market and sampling ;) it was wonderful to come home to homade split pea with ham soup Mmmmm.... I love this stuff!
Tacos!
Going out to an Italian Dinner with the girlfriends... woo!
I looooooove Italians:tongue: Oops I mean I love Italian;)
Tonight, we ordered in... I'll spare you the details except it was fattening, fattening and fattening plus artery clogging! Did I mention it was fattening? :)
Teriyaki chicken with garlic alfredo pasta!
I made a wonderous cheesy chicken pot pie with the recipe I found in the latest Kraft magazine. Mmmmmmmmmmmmmm, cheesy.
I had minestrone :)
Homemade beef Veggy soup, Pan warmed garlic roast beef, horserash whipped potatoes, corn on the cob and ice cream.
we had pork roast with roasted potatoes, fresh carrots and a garden salad (all the veggies came out of our own garden :)). The roast was so tender, it literally melted in our mouths!!
Fish sticks, fries, salad.
Ranch chicken and leftover garlic alfredo pasta :)
We had Chicken with garlic, carrots, celery with some cracked rice cooked in diced tomatoes.
Chicken Shawarma take out. It's always our plan B. From a little mom 'n pop hole in the wall about a block away. The little Lebanese grandmother (with a very deep voice) makes the hummus fresh every morning and heaps on HUGE portions. The $8.25 pack gives us two meals for two... urp! :-)
Yesterday was Chinese take-out with the in-laws. Today...no ideas yet...maybe a hot dog roast outside with the neighours.
tonight is swiss chalet - wooooooooo
It's going to be tacos tonight! Quick'n easy does it.
what exactly is shawarma I know I asked my one friend before and she told me then we went to TO and I was going to get it but forgot what it was LOL and I think it all looked like dark meat or something...and I am a veggie pretty much though I do eat chicken...so what you got sounds good lol
Tonight we had veggie burgers on amazing focaccia bread that my husband bought for me. I went to a very long birth a few days ago and he knows that when I come home I come home starving because I rarely have time to eat. So he stopped after work and stocked up on my favourite bagels and picked out some nice focaccia bread for me....I think he loves me :)
