I'm actually cooking our turkey for real..... finally!
Oh, I'm so envious of turkey, already!
We're going out of the box and I'm grilling sirloins on the stovetop tonight, will have with packet potatoes, glazed carrots, and Caesar salad.
Treated the boys to Dairy Queen for dinner. Then off to the movies. Love having these 2 weeks off school and work. Feeling free :)
Nothing major for me after big dinners with family both monday and christmas day. However on new years eve I will be by myself. I'm going to get a sushi tray, lobster tails and a couple other things. Then the next day I'll think geez that went by quick lol. ;)
the fridge is still packed up. Xmas Day we did have a bit too much on the menu so the entire roasted and stuffed bird barely got touched, funny how the desserts were wiped out faster though. So this weekend will be clean up time, Hot turkey sammies with stuffing smothered in gravy!
^ Oh, droool!
Tonight, we're having zakuski - which means pretty much, little things to nibble on - but all added up, you can get quite full!
Spinach dip baked in pumpernickel loaf
mini quiche
antipasto - I made previously and froze in small batches
ham garlic sausage, ham, salami
homemade cheese logs (never made before, can't wait to see how they turned out)
assortment of crackers, cheeses, pickles
smoked oysters

Cabbage rolls and mashed potatoes
Garlic sausage fans may understand this!
Best sausage in Edmonton (I've had it, it's fab!) - and the trials of getting some for Christmas, it's so funny.

Having some bbq flavored chicken wraps tonight.
Butter chicken...!!!
Leftover turkey tonight & fend for yourself salad.
Going to our friends tonight so not sure-it is always yummy though!
I looked in the freezer and pulled out whatever odds and ends were in there. Fries, battered fish, peas & corn, perogies, even made some fried eggs. Cleared up some much needed space in the freezer for the next round of leftovers.
leftovers and more leftovers.........
I threw my back out yesterday. First it was just a twinge as I reached into our bird's cage (bending just a little, random thing!). But I was planning to go to the gym, was in my gym gear, decided I'd go anyhow and do just a gentle workout, maybe work out this kink. I went on the treadmill for 20 minutes to warm everything up, was fine. Went to stretch for a few minutes before moving on, stretched my hamstrings, then put my feet together, knees toward the floor, bent my body forward...and my back went completely into spasm, from the middle to just above my bum. I could barely get off the floor, had to ask another exerciser to please pick up my phone since I could not bend. Went home on the bus standing up since I knew if I sat I would not get up on my own.
We've been walking a lot since then, geocaching, shopping, my back has improved but I'm being very cautious, so asked DS and DH to please fix dinner with my supervision since I can't bend with confidence. Spaghetti, jarred sauce, Italian sausages (which DS had great fun in slicing with my very sharp Henckles knives I never let him use) and garlic bread. I need to give these guys more training! DH is fabulous in all other respects, cleans, etc. but does not cook.
chicken legs and rice with veggies
Sorry about your back Zonny but if it could "last" a couple more weeks you could maybe have a roster of meals that your son and husband could take charge of!!
Ham, potatoes, carrots, cabbage...
Don't know....been invited out to a friend's place for dinner!
My father had a heart attack Christmas morning so its been hectic, been at the hospital all Christmas .I' ve been living on Tim's, Christmas chocolates and vending machine snacks for days...my dad is doing "okay" but still having complications and in ICU..so really hoping he will become more stable over the couple of days.
Zonny, hoping your back is better.
KelJo, wishing all the best for your dad as he recovers.
Chicken soup on the boil right now - heavenly smell! Will be very welcome on this very, very frigid day!
Hope you father feels better soon. So sorry to hear that.
I fancied burgers and told my DH I would be happy to cook them inside-especially since it was -19! However he decided to go out on the deck and BBQ in that-they did taste good but that is definitely outside my BBQ comfort zone!
Hmm. I'm thinking bbq tonight too maybe. Will maybe dig the steaks from the freezer. Or something else I find. With baked potatoe and fixings. Ceaser salad since we have romaine left
Zonny hope your back feels better
Keljo (hugs) all the best for your Dad
Dinner is a mystery at this point, thinking something quick and easy as I have a busy day in front of me.
Clear out the leftovers night - there's chicken soup, baked spinach dip in pumpernickel, mini quiche, cheese log, along with boiled chicken meat, ham, sausage - so whatever we each feel like out of that.
I have had lactose intolerance since my early 20s, and I've been able to eat dairy with having Lactaid pills. A few years ago I had to up the dose.
Thinking I might have to again, since the last few times I've had dairy the pills haven't worked well enough - so I've been tinkering with amounts.
Could I just stop eating dairy? Well, yeah, but I don't want to!
zonny--hope you are feeling better:sweet:
keljo--sorry to hear about your dad...hope everything is ok
Mom is preparing her borscht soup and we will be having fish and chips tonight.
Having some chicken pot pie my MIL kindly made for us. :)
We are having something similar to Natalka- a clear out the fridge smorg-commonly referred to as a grab your own or make your own at our house. Happens occasionally when the fridge is full of leftovers or the parents are feeling lazy or like they have been eating non stop for a few days! Although I will give myself some credit for making some thrifty muffins. I used some sour milk and leftover cranberry sauce in the oatmeal muffins I made this morning rather than throw them out and waste them.
