Merry Christmas everyone!! It's a different Christmas for me this year. My grandmother passed away in October, I miss her terribly..but I was lucky enough to spend the last 2 Christmas' with her so I'm very thankful for that. The first Christmas back in NFLD she gave me her secret recipe for baked salted cod that she had every Christmas for almost 65 years( she was married at 16) So that's what I'm having this evening, salted cod baked in the oven with onions, butter, etc boiled potatoes..I have a pan of molasses raisin bread (not hers) , cheese, ..her traditional Christmas Eve supper that I'll continue...and the other tradition was for the entire family to open gifts Christmas Eve and have a pork fry and finger foods around midnight, so my uncle is hosting that later tonight. I'm making meatballs (have this awesome slow cooker recipe with chili sauce & grape jelly) and making a cream cheese with red pepper jelly dip thingy, cracker, bread, etc..and see what else later. Cheers
Tonight we are going to dh's co-workers house for Christmas celebrations, I don't know what is on the menu. Her family moved here from Quebec about 2yrs ago. One side of my family is of French lineage, so it is interesting the types of traditions that continue.
Had Christmas a day early today, DD is driving down to Orlando later this evening. It was nice but not the same as Christmas day. They made a precooked stuffed PC turkey, Stuffing, Mashed potatoes and lots of veggies.
We had Christmas Eve supper - very simplified. Since there are only three of us, I would never make the 12 traditional dishes. Today, I went for only four (didn't bother with extra sides, since they don't really get eaten anyway) favourites - cabbage rolls, perogies, baked salmon, mushroom gravy, and sauteed onions to put on everything.
Lots of sweets for munching through the evening.
I have not idea what we are eating for supper tonight. We have plans for a special supper once my younger sister arrives tomorrow.
We had Christmas yesterday, DD left for Orlando late last night so tonight Strip loin steaks, baked potatoes and grilled veggies on the BBQ.
Turkey dinner and all the trimmings for supper this evening. Lemon pie for dessert.
Our tradition for Christmas Day is to have a 'snackie' supper, and just nibble...
Spinach dip baked in pumpernickel loaf
homemade antipasto
ham, beef sausage, ham garlic sausage
devilled eggs
boiled shrimp with homemade cocktail sauce
smoked oysters
dill pickles
cheeses: smoked gouda, dill havarti, cheddar, mission jack
crackers: olive oil and sea salt, bacon dippers, ritz, vegetable thins, breton
we went to a christmas eve buffet yesterday at a local casino; they had a large spread of food and a hot carvery station with turkey, beef wellington and pork. Today we had chicken breasts, corn, pasta salad, bok choy.
Had turkey like most people... but I cooked this one myself, for the first time! It turned out amazingly well, dare I say perfect.
Last night I made tater tots, sausage, and boiled broccoli.
Tonight we are taking my visiting younger sister out to Humpty's Family Restaurant. We will be taking advantage of some of their promotions. 2x free juice with regular priced meal coupons. I also bought their gift cards, buy $50 get $10 free.
Sunday's supper is home made cabbage rolls, home made cheddar and onion perogies, home made bacon perogies, Schneiders Ukrainian sausage, fried onion, and sour cream. At the end of the growing season I traded someone all of my green tomatoes for 1 dozen home made cabbage rolls and 4 dozen home made perogies. There will be too many perogies for just the four of us, so some special home made perogies for another occasion.
I also have home made sugar cookies and healthy carrot muffins. There are other home made goodies in the freezer that I had baked in advance.
Turkey again tonight for us.
Turkey anyone...?? lol...I'm making these monster sandwiches with leftover turkey, mashed potato, stuffing, cranberry sauce & gravy :)

YES, please! I'm very jealous of all the turkey meals!
We are having M&M jumbo crunchy wings - they are SO good, and I'm so glad they went down in price for the holidays! Sides will be fried up leftover perogies - for veg, I'll cook up some broccoli for me, and I'll maybe try to get husband to have some antipasto so he can grab a vitamin or two.
I was lazy but creative and used what was in the fridge.
