FREE ACCOMMODATION!
If you are planning on going on a vacation and need a place to stay you usually ask a friend if you can crash at their place.
A friend of mine recently mentioned that they slept on someone's couch. This is Couch Surfing.
At first glance this seems like throwing yourself to lions, staying at a strangers house doesn't sound like vacation and against what our parents teach "don't talk to strangers", however as you can see on the website the couch hoster have ratings from people who have slept on their couch and you can speak to them before going, see their profile and history etc.
This is a great way to meet a local and see how they live. I knew three people who have done this, all girls and felt very safe. This thread is currently associated with: N/A

I knew about this and have met a few people even though I didn't crash but it was always nice to find company and that you can even become friends with!
There's also Hospitality Club, it's like CoachSurfing except sign up with approval needed so it would take longer.
