Helpful Hints For Freebie Posters (PLEASE READ BEFORE YOU POST)

Welcome to Smart Canucks. It seems that we have a lot of new people who have joined our happy little family. We are always happy to have new members.

Here are a few little hints to make posting a little easier for everyone, and will help keep the board cleaner and be less work for the mods.

1. Please check a link before you post it. This way you will know that the link is still valid

2. If the freebie shows an expiry date please post it. This makes it much easier for the mods when they are trying to clean up a section.

3. Please do a search before posting a contest or freebie to see if it has already been posted. We all miss things that have been posted from time to time and repost but the more reposts there are the more work it is for the mods to keep this area tidy.

When searching for a free, search by sponsor and product name before posting. Sometimes you have to do more than one search to find a post.

4. Put a little info in the title of you post.
If possible put the sponsor name and the freebie in the title and again in the post
Example: National Wildlife Federation Greeting Cards
This tells you who sponsored it and what it is...when doing a search for this freebie it should pop up pretty quickly.

5. When Searching for a post , searching with more than one word (eg pink laptop just as random example) *almost never* works.. I would suggest searching laptop, pink, and the sponsor seperately in this example.

6. Remember the Quality of the posts you make is more important than the Quantity of posts of posts you make.

7. Please remember: NEVER CLICK ON THE LINK when applying for a freebie.
if the link is too long to copy and past then right click on the link and choose "copy link location". You will receive more freebies this way and the vendors will not know that you are coming from a freebie site

If a post has been moved to the expired section or to a different section it is because a mod did a search and found the same contest or freebie in previous posts or because it is better suited to one of the other threads (IE: freebies that require S&H belong in Canadian Deal and Fliers and a post for free clip art or wallpaper is better suited to Online Freebies).


To avoid your posts being moved to the expired section because they are reposts use the search feature at the top of the page (this search is best as it will find posts if they are posted in a section other than the one you are in IE..if the post is in on-line freebies and you are in the main freebie section) or the "search this form" button at the top of each section (this works well when you are searching to post a contest) to see if your freebie or contest has already been posted by someone else.

Tips for using the search function

1. Try a couple of searches using different terms if you don't find anything the first time.

2. Don't just search for the contest website or company name, not everyone includes these in their post description.

3. Often it is easier to find by searching for the freebie offered or contest prize or catch-phrase rather than the name of the company or contest name.

4. Search using only one or two key words. Too many words will just turn up more posts than you can look through or maybe nothing at all as sometimes it is just too much info for the search engine.

5. Make sure you are looking in the right place. Quite often someone will post a freebie in the general thread that has already been posted in on-line freebies or in Canadian Shopping Deals and Fliers.

6. Keep current with threads! Almost half of the reposts I see were posted earlier in the same thread (only one or two days before for the most part)

Bumping this up again! Reposts *are not* a good thing... if you find something that is worth saying again, bump up an old post! this will mean people will see it again without having to work there way through all the pages, but won't clog up the forum. Thanks!!
