Looking for advice on buying a Wii.
I see that the Wii Console is on for $249.99 at SDM this week. Also would get 15,000 points for purchase over $75. Is that the best price/offer?
I recall information about buying a Wii during SDM bonus days. Anyone know how that works?
Thank you for your help!This thread is currently associated with: Pharmaprix, Shoppers Drug Mart

I would personally wait for a 20x point day.
249 x 10=2490
2490x20=49800 points= close to 100$ in sdm points
200$ is 75 000 points on a bonus redemption day. 150$ all other days. I highly doubt the wii would be on sale during a bonus redemption day.
The bonus redemption only happens 3 to 4 times a year.Last edited by blackpup; Fri, Aug 21st, 2009 at 08:01 PM. Reason: added more details

I was breaking down the point calculations
249$ purchase You receive 10 regular sdm points for every dollar spent so
249x10=2490 regular points
On a 20x points day, you would get 2490x20=49800 points vs 15000 +2490 (17490 pts) you would get by buying it this week
I just edited my earlier post adding a bit more of info.

Sorry if I am being a pain but if I understand correctly, 20X points day means you get 200 points for every dollar spent, not just 2X the regular points ie. 2x10 points per dollar.
Hard to believe I got 98% in math, isn't it? SDM calculations seem to be beyond me.
I recall someone posted a whole chart on how to calculate the best SDM deal. That made me laugh at the time and here I am needing it. The question is: should I buy the Wii on sale now at $249.99, use 75,000 points to get $150 off and get the 15,000 bonus points? Technically, that would make the Wii $75 ie. $100 plus $25 in points. Does that sound right?
My worry is that the Wii might not be $249.99 on a 20Xpoints day.

I only passed sdm math 101
But on 20x days you do get 200 pts for every dollar spent.
I think this is the first time the wii has been on sale anywhere. I don't get nay flyers here, so I might be wrong, but I think someone mentioned something like that in the sdm flyer thread.
Your strategy is a good one. If I remember correctly, I bought the wii @ 275$ (could be more) I also did a redemption of 150$ so I got 25000 bp as it was a 20x day.
Lets say it was a 20x day... You would get :
19 800 bp (249-150=(99x10)x20
You will be getting 4800 less points during this promo.
But like you said, the wii might not be on sale then. I would buy it now, who knows when the next 20x day is, they are mostly doing gc promos now. 4800 is not that big of a difference.
Remember to buy a sdm gc first to pay for the balance.
Enjoy your wii!My Queen passed out from pure bliss thanks to her secret Santa. Bless you kind angel

99.9% chance the Wii will NOT be on sale during bonus redemption. In fact, a lot of SDM's hide the high value electronics on bonus redemption days.
20x the points day would be better, but again, probably won't be on sale.
Also - don't forget to buy a gift card prior to purchasing. Right now it will be $282 after tax. If you buy a GC for $282 (to use to pay for your Wii purchase) you'll get 2820 points.
2820 points+
2490 points (regular points on the purchase) +
15,000 bonus points for spending $75.
Total = 20,310
This is worth $54.16 (when you redeem 75,000 points for $200 on bonus redemption day.)
If you waited for a 20x the points event (assuming its not on sale) $279.99 plus tax = $316.39
Buy a gc for $316 = 3160 points
2790 points on the purchase
53,010 bonus points
Total = 58,960 points
This is worth $157.27 (when you redeem 75,000 points for $200).
I think my math is right on all of this!
(Also, I'm using 13% tax as calculation for gift cards)- one more thing!!! Be SURE they have it in stock before you purchase the gift card!Andrea

Thanks everyone! Great help. SDM math is definitely the new math! But there is clearly a lot of brain power out there.
Quick question: if you are using points to pay for part of the purchase eg. 75,000 for this purchase, are the points calculated on the total before or after points?

Decided to wait to wait with the purchase of the Wii.
Still shopped enough to get the 15,000 point bonus.
