Governor General Michaelle Jean wells up with tears as she leaves a military ceremony in her honour at the National War Museum in Ottawa.

i can't seem to find the quote i wanted,,,something about how putting on her uniform was hard as when she was a kid living in the haiti the uniforms scared her - was a brutal dictatorship then.
from her 'installation speech', "I know how precious that freedom is.... I whose ancestors were slaves, who was born into a civilization long reduced to whispers and cries of pain, know something about its price, and I know too what a treasure it is for us all."
Treasury Board President Stockwell Day described her ability to connect with people.
“I remember one time I walked with her through the kitchen at Rideau Hall going to another room and the way that people who work in the kitchen just embraced her and reached out to her, the way she would stop and not just talk to them, but she really knew what was going on in their lives,” Day told reporters.
