For simple, any of the Company's Coming series. Rookie Cook is really good for basics.
For gourmet, depends what type you are looking for - specific ethnicity, etc.
nothing specific, maybe like a fancy entertaining book ... i dunno ... i'll likely end up very confused in Chapters lol
