    The recipe I use for nanaimo bars is from Company's Coming squares book, and is very close to thriftygranny's so I won't reprint. However, you must use the custard powder!

    Why couldn't you? If I remember correctly, the butter is for the cookie part of the square. Less fat would mean a drier date square. You can also reduce the amount of sugar for the dates. ...

    i know we can replace fat by the same amount of apple sauce in cakes and muffins without changing the texture of it but can we do the same with the dates squares ? or does any one have a 'light'...
