Anyone know what's up with the Food Basics on Dundas in Whitby?? I drove by today, paper all over the windows with a hand written sign in the window saying "Food Basics is CLOSED". And this was at about 11:30 this morning.
Looks like I might have to do a little price matching at Zellers so I can get the Catelli deal.

Okay, so I emailed Food Basics and this was my response:
"Thank you for your email.
This store has closed for good."

to be honest, i'm not surprised that it closed. i was appalled the one and only time i went to that store (about 6 months ago). i went for one of the dollar sales. i had my list with all the items on sale and went right after work on the first day of the sale only to find a FILTHY store with no sale items in stock. i was very disappointed and vowed to never return. yes, they did have great deals from time to time, but the horrible atmosphere and shopping experience wasn't worth it.
edited to add: ... i guess i should have read the title! lol.. it's the Oshawa store that i refuse to go to again.

The Whitby one was actually pretty bad too. I didn't frequent there, but liked to hit the big sales. But yeah, poor stock of sale items, floors looked dirty all the time, and aisles were always cluttered with boxes. I think it's a Food Basics thing because the two in Brantford were the same as well!!

I went to that one a few months back and it was complete crap. They had nothing left maybe a few cartons of expired milk, cereal, and frost bitten tv dinners. We thought it was all around crap even the prices were jacked up and they didnt have any of the sale prices so we left. But makes since now though.

You think it's bad, you should try the one in Port Perry.
My wife and I went to the Oshawa FB (on King St) a few months ago and we couldn't believe it was the same chain!
It was clean, had nice, wide aisles and friendly staff. I've only been the once but it seemed 10 times better than the one in PP.
Either I just caught them on a good night or my life in PP has lowered my standards considerably. Still, it saves us a lot of $$$ on groceries, so I can't complain too much.
