Hi,
I just received my email for the Swiss Chalet birthday gift. (I'm just not techno-savvy enough to know how to insert the pic here.) It's a free dessert. And from what I can tell, there does not appear to be any obligation for you to buy a meal with it. And you can use the free dessert coupon over a length of time. i.e. you don't have to go on your b-day to get the freebie.

We once went to Swiss Chalet for my dad's birthday and I jokingly mentioned that it was my dad's birthday assuming the server would hear and she did, so he got a free cake with a candle. No coupons necessary. I'm not sure, they might've changed it already, this was a year ago.
