What I find interesting is that the Government is imposing this new Tax, yet the Government is also telling you how to effectively cheat the system of additional taxes of buying early. So if the Government recognizes that it will cost people more money that they can't afford, why again are they going ahead with the HST?

I've done it by cutting back on spending. But that's just me, and I stay balanced. Now I'm not expecting the gov't to take a page out of my book, they afterall have their sense of entitlement to consider.

I'm not even debating the rationale behind raising taxes, I expect that as spending increases they will need to find the money somehow.

But I guess I take issue with deception, and what Dalton did was outright deception of his constituents when they voted for him. And to be quite honest, to vote him in again would be to send the message that it's okay and I'm in no way prepared to do that.
    Well-put, Sunraven.

I've always been pissed that there always seems to be some form of fiscal irresponsibility at the governmental levels. It's the same everywhere.

That is why I always emphasized that taxes is one subject I absolutely have to be knowledgeable about. Taxes is likely the biggest expense item in any household budget (at least it is the biggest expense in my household budget), and that is why it is imperative that we find ways to legally minimize it.

At least, I know how to responsibly use the money that is not going towards taxes.

That being said, I do want to pay my fair share of taxes....

I utterly appreciate the fact that childbirth at Mout Sinai, and my dear son's stay in the Sick Kids' last week was funded by the taxes we have all paid, and of course, the generous donations that the public has doled on the Mount Sinai and Sick Kids' Foundation.

I was just reading that this will also materially affect those with high-MER mutual funds. On a $25K portfolio with 2.5% MER, this works out to $50 a year. But where this gets interesting is that it adds up to a tidy sum at retirement when portfolio growth and compound interest is factored in.

I've always said you get what you elect.
Come the next provincial election, what alternative is there?
The Conservatives have Hudak as leader and I call him Who dat, as I'm sure many others do. You never hear/read anything about him.
As for taxes, every level of Government makes it harder to get by.
Always remember the What are you thankful for today? thread as there always is something to be thankful for.
