We really cant dumpster dive here because we put our food in the green bin with the boxes of stuff..
Some people do find inserts in blue bins though but thats when you walk around
If our system was different I would be out there everyday dumpster diving...

From what I have been reading about in here the biggest scores seem to be apartment buildings - but I do not know how the recycling is organized for them here.
I have asked at the local store for the leftover flyers from the Chronicle Herald and so far they have been very kind in keeping the extras for me.
Good luck and have fun!
I am envious of your opportunity as we live in the middle of nowhere with no recycling bins in sight for miles.

Papers @ the store seem to be hit or miss with the inserts. I'm friendly with the owners of the corner store near me, so if I'm there on a Sunday I ask if I can check. Out of the three times I've looked, once there were inserts. Someone could have beaten me to the others or maybe it was just a flook.

You can have the cans on my patio.I don't return them
.I do keep them on the patio in blue bags. There are alot of less fortunate people around here, who walk around with bags and shopping carts looking for recyclables. When I see them,I yell down and toss them over the balcony to them.

Apartment buildings in Truro, where I lived before Pictou County, don't seem to require residents to separate garbage from recyclables, etc. - as a result, I would NOT suggest jumping into an apartment building dumpster. They are nasty nasty places. We lived in a four unit building, and because the pick-up was private contract via the building owner, even that building didn't require us to recycle, or really give us any direction for it if we wanted to - so everything went in the same bags. I think for private homes, your only real option would be to walk down the street on recycle days, but you would have to open the bags you see, which you might get into trouble for? I've never seen any large blue recycle bins or anything like you see on TV or elsewhere. I don't think we have them here.

You know, I gotta say, stuff like this is probably what makes couponing something that has a stigma attached. I mean, I like saving money as much as the next person, but I'm sure as h*ll not going to go digging through the trash for coupons.
I mean, go ahead and do whatever you want- I'm not judging you. But I will say I was seriously taken aback by this post.

I'm not about to jump into a bin either, my recycling-snags have all been right-place-right-time sort of things. Like, seeing a cereal box poking out of a bag or something that I know should have a coupon. Though, if I knew of a place where the inserts were dumped, that was a paper only bin, I might think twice. =)
As for where to get coupons when you're new:
Here. Save.ca, websaver.ca, P&G site, gocoupons.ca, store tear-pads, product packaging. Inserts can be tricky, my family saves them for me and I get the paper every saturday. Facebook is a great place too. A lot of FB freebies/coupons get posted here regularly.
