Most stores do their boxing day leftover sales @ 75% around mid-January here.

Still 50% off in Ottawa, I'm thinking starting mid-January as well.

I would say Mid-January most stores are now holding off as long as possible and a lot of stores now won't go as low as they used too. Michael's used to go to 90% off now they only go to 75% and toss whatever is left after 75% off.

They TOSS whatever's left???? Rather than take money for it???? Does that make sense to you????? Maybe I'll hang out at the Michael's Trash (Oh that doesn't sound inviting, does it?)

I used to work at Chapters and what we did was sell stuff at %50 for Boxing Day, and whatever was left we'd put up for the "sidewalk sales" around mid-January at %75. Then, if stuff STILL didn't sell, there would be 3 options: the first to hold it until next year's boxing day sale, liquidate it at $1, $2, $3, or to "scrap" it which just means ripping up the books and throwing them out. If we had a nice manager, he/she would allow us to take the stuff home...but normally that's not even allowed. So...go figure...

dumpster diving (yeah) just joking, so sad that they would rather throw items away that potentially liquidate at a fraction of the price, I think if the stores are not interested in liquidating then offer to staff or perhaps even charities. My 2 cents. But everyone is out for a bargain these days with the economy being the way it is.

OMG...couldn't they donate the books rather than ripping it up. Such a waste. And with so many people having hardships during the tough economic times. I could not bring myself to rip up a book...just couldn't. The thought makes me hyperventilate.
I do know that many clothing stores will burn the left-over fabrics when done with production....and this makes me so sad. Gymboree will do this under armed guard, if you believe that. So competitive. Sigh!I love the Swagbucks FREE Amazon gift cards: http://www.swagbucks.com/refer/breylormom
