ok so last winter I was joking with a few people about how Americans think we live in an igloo and I was wanting to build a neat fort that may classify as an igloo but never really managed. I was still not really able to do much because of my back and the weather wasn't co-operating and what not. Well this year my back is a bit stronger and the weather has been cold and we also have gotten a ton of snow. lol so I set out to try build one again. It has taken two months because I can only do so much a day and we went through a warm spell of like 5-7 degrees above for a few days which sort of melted it a bit so it looks a bit lumpy on the outside but here it is!!! The doorway is like close to 6ft high so that gives you an idea how big it is. it has given me something to do to keep mobile and to help me strengthen my back. I have gone from being able to shovel about 1/4 shovel full at a time to about 1/2 shovel full so I am seeing improvement! getting stronger!!! oh this also explains part of my absense on here lately. lol

Tara I used 3 boards-one 2x4 and 2 2x6 boards. no plywood. each board was placed about a 1/3 of the way apart to support the roof so it has more support. I hope it does help support the roof though! because of the melting and thawing it did when it was warm-everything is basically all frozen together in a solid mass. lol so hopefully it stays together! I want to continue on it and make a chair or something out of snow inside it but not sure yet. it's so freezing cold out there I haven't been able to go outside much the past few days. it's been about -30. the cold weather is supposed to continue into march so this thing isn't melting too soon. lol

Wow! I don't even know what to say. That is just so cool!
You should write down your igloo story. I think it would be an inspiration for people trying to recover from their own issues.
Now you can tell those silly Americans that this is the Canadian way of doing physio!

I always sucked badly at building snow forts, that would have been the fort of my dreams as a kid.

thanks everyone! I haven't slept in it Sally. might be too cold. lol this is the fort of my dreams. lol always wanted a fort that I could stand in! I wonder how long it will last though-it could still be partially there in May! lol the walls are over a foot deep so they should last awhile. yes I can tell Americans this is where I live. lol oh and I can put my puppy outside and take a photo of my "sled dog". hehe. yeah this is how Americans think these things huh? lol
