I also wondered what they were talking about. Turns out they are referring to White Swan brand paper made by Kruger pulp and paper in Quebec. Certainly not a good comparison for them, White Swan is made up from recyled enviormentally friendly materials. Sort of like comparing a Corvette to an Austen mini Cooper!

I have never heard the term "bird brand" and I don't know of any toilet paper with a bird on it. Unless this is a reference to a previous ad campaign or something?
"They are referring to White Swan Brands" (The Bird Brand) the competitor brand.

Charmin in an American company; Royale and the others mentioned here are Canadian. No contest for me.

Considering the price difference, Charmin should be a heck of a lot better than White Swan!

their mascot is a bear, so maybe instead of saying "better than the other leading brand", they thought they were clever calling it 'bird' brand, since their bear is stronger than a bird?

    Under products it says :

    • White Swan napkins, bathroom tissue, paper towels and facial tissue (value brand; referred to by some competitors as the "bird brand"[2])

    2. ^Procter & Gamble. "Charmin Toilet Paper – Products". Retrieved 2013-02-23.

Thanks but their reference just sends people to the Charmin page where it just says "bird brand" and doesn't explain it by name. Their Wiki reference is just assuming

Needless to say P&G you're not doing a good job advertising if people have no clue what you're talking about

I don't buy Charmin because it always plugs the toilet, unless you use 1 square.

He says it because all other brands are cheaper then Charmins. It is way over priced and so thick it plugs toilets. Being 12 I think it's a gd reason. Bird brand means " cheap, cheap" er then Charmins

I find a lot of ads for P&G products where they compare to another brand are quite meaningless. Anyone every notice the fine print on the Dawn ads, the ones where they are washing dishes from the poutine stall? It says "*compared to the leading non-concentrated brand". Well come on, of course one drop of concentrated dishwashing liquid (i.e. Dawn), will go further than one drop of non-concentrated dishwashing liquid. This is comparing apples to pineapples, just like the Charmin commercials comparing to White Swan.

(That said, we are a Charmin household. Dh has asked me not to buy other brands maybe six or seven years ago. Last year I tried Royale for a while cause they have such fab coupons and great sales at SDM, which gets to the $50 mark for 20x points, but he really, really didn't like it. So back to just Charmin for us.)
