Parents gave everything up to start a new life. They found work at Target. They made sure their children excelled. These are the types of Target employees I will miss:
their son had a 100.5% average
their son wants to do brain surgery to find secrets to Alzheimers -- his grandmother has Alzheimers
their son was accepted to 8 Ivy League schools (including Harvard)

The teen wanted to work at Chick-Fil-A. The Target employee gave a good word for the student to the Chick-Fil-A. BTW, the teen got the jobLast edited by Shwa Girl; Tue, Apr 7th, 2015 at 09:02 PM.

I bought some Sonia Kashiuk makeup but when I opened the sealed package - it had gone white and I threw it out. I did buy some tops and a jewelry box at 80% off. But I will miss the wonderful customer service from the cashiers, and the clean uncluttered aisles.
Now that Target is closing I suspect Walmart's prices will go up. They said in the news that they are eliminating free online shopping with any purchase, that the new minimum will be $50. I refuse to go into Walmart. Time to save some money I guess.

There will be a funeral on the last day at Target Stockyard store
One of the first customers Target served in Canada is holding a funeral for the retail chain outside its Stockyards location, the same day that store closes and a day before all outlets are shuttered.
“It’s really sad to see what happened and we need to have a proper send-off,” said Harrison Jordan, a 22-year-old Osgoode law student who is organizing the event.
Target indicated it would be closing all 133 stores when it filed for creditor protection in January, leaving 17,600 employees without work. Thirty-seven stores are still open across Canada, with 24 closing Thursday and the remaining over the weekend.
On Wednesday morning, the Stockyards outlet was quiet as shoppers looked for bargains, shuffling through remaining products strewn on shelves, and digging through clothing and housewares dumped into shopping carts. Large sections of the store were already empty and cordoned off, while some remaining fixtures were up for sale.
Jordan, who briefly wrote for the Star in 2011 as a youth columnist covering the federal election, expects 20 or so people to turn up for the ceremony. Black attire will be expected and a bagpiper will play.
He started shopping at Target on family trips south of the border and will never forget his first time.
“You know how when you go into casinos and they pump oxygen? That’s how I felt when I stepped into a Target for the first time in Cheektowaga,” said Jordan.
That’s what led to his enthusiasm when the chain announced it was moving up north. Jordan said he burst into Target when it opened in Guelph two years ago, grabbed a peanut butter Snickers bar and ran to the returns counter, asking if he could make a purchase there.
As he was being rung up, he said he excitedly told the cashier this was the first purchase at a Target in Canada. The cashier responded in a less excited tone: “Oh, cool.”
“I slowly brought up my wrist and did a fist pump, just to myself,” Jordan said.
He never felt quite the same way in a Canadian Target and admits he seldom returned. But he says there’s still a “special place” for the retailer and its exit from Canada should be mourned.
“The colour red just repels Canadians from big box stores,” said Jordan, referencing the downfall of Future Shop and Zellers.
“This funeral is to tell Target it’s not its fault.”

today is the last day
Target Canada
2013-2015
The remaining Target locations in Canada are closing their doors for good on Sunday, marking the end of the U.S. retail giant's short-lived foray north of the border.
As of Sunday afternoon, the Minneapolis-based company's Canadian Twitter and website appeared to be inactive.
Fans of the American retail giant took to Twitter to express their sadness over the company's departure from Canada.

Marks Work Wearhouse and Canadian Tire moving in
May 6 (Reuters) - Retailer Canadian Tire Corp Ltd said it would buy leases for 12 properties previously held by the Canadian unit of Target Corp for $17.7 million.
The 12 locations, spread across the country, will add about 400,000 square feet of retail space to Canadian Tire Retail's store network, the company said on Wednesday.
Apart from its namesake automotive and homeware stores, Canadian Tire also operates Mark's, a casual and industrial wear retailer, and FGL Sports, whose store brands include Sport Chek, Hockey Experts and Sports Experts.
"We've been tracking certain Target properties for some time and when the opportunity came up, we moved quickly and secured virtually all of them," Canadian Tire CEO Michael Medline said in a statement.
U.S. discount retailer Target, granted creditor protection for its money-losing Canadian subsidiary, in April closed the last of its 133 retail stores in Canada.
Canadian retailers Metro Inc and Hudson's Bay Co have also shown interest in leasing Target's properties.
Canadian Tire did not specify if the deal value was in U.S. or Canadian dollars.
Toronto-based Canadian Tire's shares were down 1.1 percent at C$126.55 on the Toronto Stock Exchange.

It's July but people are still feeling the effects of Target leaving
Hasbro, the maker of Monopoly and My Little Pony, complained this week that Target’s January decision to close up shop in Canada weighed on its sales growth. TransForce, a truck driver staffing agency, groused over the loss of one of its largest accounts. Starbucks bemoaned the shuttering of more than 100 licensed locations in Target stores. And Target’s ATM-provider, DirectCash Payments, said it took a hit.
Even Dollarama, Canada’s largest dollar store chain and a Target competitor, said it’s seeing sales declines at stores located near Target stores, as shoppers flock to liquidation sales. Dollarama CEO Laurence Rossy said he’s hoping the next retailer that takes over Target’s retail store locations in Canada will drive more traffic to the shopping centers than flailing Target did.
