Interested in winning a grand prize of $300.00, a second place prize of $200.00 or one of ten runner-up $100.00 prizes?
We Need your Help!
Several unique challenges affect food distribution affect communities in Northwestern Ontario (NWO).
Things like geographic distance and lack of adequate transportation make the distribution of locally and regionally produced food difficult in NWO.
In an effort to find a solution to this problem the Food Security Research Network (FSRN) at Lakehead University is launching the Food Distribution Challenge, which will be asking for the submission of ideas on how to create a more efficient and reliable local food distribution system in NWO.
No idea is too big or small and we are interested in receiving ideas from everyone!
You don't have to be an expert, live in Ontario, or even in Canada!
You can also work in pairs or teams!
We believe that the best ideas can come from those within the community, or even outside of it!
We're not looking to change the world, but address even a few problems!
If you think you can help, please visit our website at www.foodinnovation.ca and join our Facebook group, Food Innovation Northwestern Ontario, to find out more about the contest details.
Resources are also available on the website, and if you contact us, we would be more than willing to help you develop your idea!
The deadline for the submissions is February 22, 2015 and we hope you are as excited as we are!
If you have any questions please visit the website's FAQ page, get in touch with us at [email protected], or through the website by filling in the Contact Us form.
Good luck and let us know if we can help you help us!

This is a very important issue. I'm aware of Nunavut's food insecurity issue. I've noticed that in Ontario, Thunder Bay and Red Lake are often excluded from grocery store flyers for other parts of Ontario.
I'm going to share this contest information on Twitter. I'm not sure how the end result will be as there are many factors going into this food puzzle. Thanks for sharing the contest and website with us!2021-Bring on the sunshine, sweets & online shopping.

The companies want to make profit.
I believe the Nutrition North program is in use in parts of NWO as it is in Nunavut but the prices in-stores are really high.
There has to be some kind of co-op effort that can buy large quantities from say Costco or other stores and then get the merchandise north. But transportation/roads are difficult then there's delivery too far apart communities. We're probably looking at 2-3 days at least in good weather for delivery?2021-Bring on the sunshine, sweets & online shopping.

Ciel and ROMEO,
These are some good ideas being proposed!
Please note that the competition does allow partners or teams to create one proposal, if you were interested!
Best,
wtleppan
