I'm trying to decide the color of my next car.

I was told white is best for visibility, hides scratches well (until I discovered they used black primer underneath), and resist fading in the sun.

I noticed my neighbors silver car hides dust so much better.

    What are other people's thoughts?

I think silver is equivalent for visibility, scratches, and fading to white. It does hide dust and dirt way better though. I'm not sure there is any advantage to one over the other, unless you're talking about a light silver compared to a dark silver.

From personal experience, birds seem to love pooping on silver cars more than any other colour we've had. We park in the same spot and drive the same route day after day, year after year.

Why don't you go over to the dealership and see cars in both colours? If you're buying new, sometimes white can cost more (a Toyota Prius in white is about $250 more than the other colours). I have no idea why.

Yes, I have been to the dealerships...
    • some colors are metallic and some whites are "pearl" which adds to the cost.
    • Prius is high on my list with congested roads/neighborhoods. However, friends have been raising the concerns on crash repair costs on these hybrids. Modern vehicles with multiple airbags just makes it easier for the car to be written off.
    • Prius has a light silver and a darker grey. I was hoping for something in between
    • yes my current white car hides bird droppings well compared to others in the neighborhood.
