I didn't realize that Canadians could buy a powerball lottery ticket, I thought it was only a US resident thing but not so. Evidently if a canadian wins they just pay 30 percent tax instead of 25 percent but i could live with that considering the payout is currently more than a billion dollars? I live near Calgary so driving across the boarder is a long drive at least a 5 hours one way for me, so not sure its worth the effort. You can buy the tickets online but evidently it can be sketchy as they are lottery ticket resellers which is a bit confusing. For those of you living near the boarder, have you made the drive to buy a ticket?

I live in a border town but I don't drive. Even if I did drive I don't think I'd go across if that was my only reason for going. lol That's just me. If I was there already and shopping or visiting someone I'd pick one up for certain. As for buying online....... there is so much confusion on that. Apparently you "can" but you can't. There are no licensed dealers for online purchasing so it really is buyer beware. I mean someone is supposedly going in to a store and purchasing your ticket for you and letting you know what the numbers are. No offense but I'm not trusting a total stranger with my credit card information or to give me the correct numbers. lol Possession is 9/10ths of the law. Assuming this person is honest with you that they purchased the ticket, imagine if it won? They have it in their hand and that kind of money could make the most honest person become dishonest in an instant.
Again. That's just me. I know it's definitely tempting with it being estimated at at least 1.3 Billion US for Wed. Eep. Yowsers. lolLast edited by TaraF; Sun, Jan 10th, 2016 at 04:31 PM.

Funny, I was just thinking about this yesterday. Even did a search here to see if Powerball was being discussed. I'm not much of a lottery player but for a billion+... Anyway was hoping maybe there'd be a pool here that folks could join and have a SC member close to the border skip across and pick up a batch. Use paypal to send that member $10 each (or whatever) then if we win we could each buy our own Greek island.

I would definitely be on board with the idea of contributing to a lottery pool

Yeah, I was hoping for a SmartCanucks thing with someone close to the border who has a good reputation here. Ah well, at one in 292 million odds of winning I likely saved a few bucks by not playing. It is fun to dream though...
I changed my mind on the Greek island though, I want one in the Bahamas.

That's what I was hoping too Dave, I have decided to just waste my money on the Canadian lottery instead, lol, plus i really do have a problem giving the americans i single dime of my money with the poor exchange rate, normally we would have had a holiday across the boarder at least once a year but not for several years now, just cannot justify it so trying to keep the money in our own country.

Imagine the exchange rate on that! Oh well. Maybe next time
