Bonus points on purchase of SDM gift card

The policy will differ from store to store (sometimes even from cashier to cashier). So far I've had no problems paying for other retailers' GC's with a SDM GC (I normally buy Esso GC's).

My suggestion is to buy a relatively small amount of GC's (I usually only buy $100-$200 at a time). Once the cashier has "activated" the GC's, it becomes a bit of a hassle to cancel the sale (will require a manager to overide). If they refuse the SDM GC as payment, then simply tell them to cancel the sale. 99% of the time, they'll realize that it's not worth the hassle and simply accept the SDM GC (which is essentially like cash anyway).

Oh - another thing....I never give the cashier my Optimum card when buying non-SDM GC's. Since there are no bonus points on GC purchases, I figure why take a chance to raise any "flags".

There is nothing on the card that indicates that you must have a valid student ID or anything else to use it. I used mine to buy bus passes, no problem at all!

i bought 2x $200 GCs and didn't get the bonus points. the cashier said that happened earlier today and that i have to call shoppers to get them to manually add the points

Just wondering... were you sure to get the "Parents/Students" giftcard? If you did AND your Shoppers Optimum card was properly scanned then they've got gremlins in their system.
