It's a bit of a gray area at the moment in Canada. However, there is no law against downloading copyrighted music.
People have and do get sued in the USA for illegally downloading and uploading music (violating copyright), but here no such precedent exists (as of yet).
There is a copyright reform bill (a terrible bill imho) trying to get passed by The Conservatives, it hasn't yet though. Not sure where they are at with it at the moment.
I avoid Limewire and the like myself, too filled with fake songs, viruses, spyware, adware and so on.
Whether it's wrong or not (morally) is up to the individual.

I beleive that it used to be in Canada that it was illegal to upload music but not to download it. I think they are in the process are trying to make it illegal, I've been using Limewire for years and haven't had a problem. A lot of the people in the US that got in trouble were because they had Metallica songs and Metallica had gone on suing everyone about everything

I'd be more concerned about UPLOADING copyrighted music. But even then, being in canada I wouldn't worry about it, I've been doing it for years and years too.
I support artists I like by going to their shows, those are a lot more expensive than the albums and artists get paid mostly from touring anyway.Last edited by Justine; Wed, Sep 30th, 2009 at 07:57 PM.

Me too! Most of the bands I see encourage file sharing, and when you see a new band, they encourage me and my friends to each buy a different album and share with each other. I also normally pick up stickers/patches or t-shirts, not so much anymore, but there's always a binder or water bottle kicking around that could use a sticker or too...
