My 3 years old was "finally" (after 2 years of going to a speech pathologist) diagnosed with "mixed expressive-receptive language delay" by a developmental pediatrician. The ped. recommended attending at least 2 days at a preschool. He will start next week 5 days part time. He will have special assistance at school next year, they even said if he was not ready, he is not obliged to go (?!!!). A social worker is coordinating between the developmental ped., the speech pathologist and his school.
I'm just worried and would like any input or experience from moms and dads here. I am also worried because next year he will attend a full time kj, I am thinking of asking part time schools out of the area if he can attend there.
To add on he is not potty-trained in full yet, the ped. and the speech path. agree that it is related to the delay!!This thread is currently associated with: N/ALast edited by danielzmom; Wed, Feb 1st, 2012 at 09:58 AM.

I read this yesterday, but didn't reply, hoping someone with direct expreience might answer you.
I'm a former primary teacher, but what you are dealing with is more specialized than I can comment much upon.
Do some research, read some forums to get some ideas/information as well (just google your thread title, and lots come up - I did some reading there and educated myself somewhat more!).
It's good you got a diagnosis now, and have a great team available to you - that's quite wonderful! Get concrete suggestions from them as to things you can be doing at home, as well.
Wishing you luck - don't worry a lot, things will progress!

Thank you Natalka for the response..
the day they diagnosed him I kept googling for several hours and most claimed it will take time to progress! I just thought maybe any experience here would be great, but they are already taking care of him, and he will start daycare next week.

we speak two languages, his pathologist said it is not related to the two languages, however the developmental pediatrician says the opposite and that I should stick to English!

Nope, there are only advantages to being bilingual (doesn't matter at all what the second language is)! The delay would be there, regardless...
