What can the newbies do with the candies then? Just wondering.

You can buy gifts for people, donate them or enter the lottery (which is only for more candy so may not make much sense, lol!). That's about all I can think of that you could use them for.

Yes gifts are the little items you see under people's names such as my apple. A thread on gifts can be found here. There is actually a list of gifts that you can select from and I beleive each one costs 1000 candies +taxes.

Olive, here is the latest thread on candies. When you are looking for something in particular such as what candies are it can be difficult if you are going through each section of the forum. What I would advise is to use the site's search function (located along the top of each page). I typed in "candies" and it brought up all the candy related threads.
