Roomba?

Hi all!

Does anybody out there have a ROOMBA? I'm thinking of getting one, but would like to hear some firsthand feedback.

We have all hardwood floors. The combination of a toddler who drops bits of whatever he eats, a pair of furry cats and my own negligence = floors are often kind of yucky!

Anyone have an opinion?

I am interested in any responses from people here.
I really want one, a few of my friends have them. They all are cat owners and say it makes a huge difference in the pet fur especially. Only thing is it has to be cleaned out frequently if you have pets, and these seem to have short lifespans - a couple of years tops, which makes it pretty expensive.

Anyone here have one that lasted really well? Is it worth that price even if it only lasts a year or two and breaks?

We have a roomba, and I love it but it has not replaced my regular vacuum.

My son loves turning it on, so we run it daily. It does keep the dog fur down quite a bit (we have dark hardwood), but I find I still had to vacuum once a week to keep the house clean. Parts of the roomba broke quite quickly. It has this piece that is an edge cleaner and it broke after about 3 months. It still works, it just doesn't have the edge cleaner. We have had ours for 2 years and it is still working.

If you want something that helps keep the house clean then I would say go for it, but IMO it will not replace a regular floor cleaning. For me it has cut down on the amount of times I vacuum the house, but I still have to do it.

I own a roomba more than one year, still love it.

Because roomba help me save lots of time and keep home clean, I tell everyone get it. Now three of my friends also have it.

Just like a real person, My Roomba also was getting lazy recently, she refused to do the cleaning job after about 15 minutes. I mail ordered a new battery for her from newegg , now she is back to business.

Has anyone ever tried the "wet" one, I think it's called a Scooba?

I have a Roomba that has been sitting in it's box for a couple of years because it went haywire after a few months and I haven't used it since and I'm baffled as to how to get it fixed.

The concept is great. If you can just run this thing every time you're out it will greatly reduce the amount of stuff on your floor and hence it reduces but doesn't eliminate the need to vacuum. It worked great as long as it was running.

Anyone know how to get one repaired?

I love my roomba - but it does need a new battery so we are not using it at the moment .
It doens't replace reg. vacuuming/sweeping depending on how large of an area you are using it in. Mine does a 500 sq ft daily, basically cuts down on the dog hair and major stuff. I have to get out the broom every 3 days, but that's better than 45 mins of sweeping daily!
To get it fixed mcminsen - you should have contacted the roomba company (irobot) it was likely under warranty at that time. Mine even had a recall and they sent me the repair kit. I bought it at costco so they had all my info already. Also you can sign up with them and they send you all of their special offers.
I don't have the scooba, but I know someone who does and she really likes it.

I had wanted a Roomba for a long time but always talked myself out of it b/c I thought it wasn't going to do the job well. After about 2 years, I finally bought one and it's the BEST thing ever. Looking back, I wish I had to bought one 2 years ago.

I love how I never have any crumbs in on the kitchen floors!

I bought one of the higher models so I can't speak for the lower models. But yah, best thing money can buy

I did end up buying one, I <3 my Roomba. We have mostly hardwood floors, it does a great job getting all the hair, dust, etc. off the floors. I was running it on each floor for awhile - one day upstairs, the next downstairs, etc. But it's kind of noisy, my mom is staying with us right now, so it hasn't been doing much lately.

I got one for Xmas, and loooove it, it does a great job and I notice a big difference in the fur and stuff in the corners. The dog isn't even afraid of it like he is the vaccuum. Now just to see the longevity. Time will tell!

I had one and totally loved it. I live in 1000sq ft all one level and all hardwood so all I had to do was turn it on and leave and when I came home the house was clean. Even under the beds!!! You do have to clean it after every vacuum though which I think is a reasonable price to pay

the problem is the longevity like is mentioned. After about a year it needed a new battery which I got on eBay for about 40.00 but this only lasted about 6 months and now it won't take a charge So my Roomba is sitting in the basement. I miss it but don't want to keep buying exprnsive batteries that won't last long.

I have had one for four years now....use it in the basement all the time....it is all carpet down there. The only thing is to make sure to lift anything up that you can. I move my end tables and small coffee table up unto the old couch so that the Roomba has more open area to get around. When it bumps into something it will change direction and goes another way. I found that if it had more open space to clean it did a better job. It does have to be cleaned after each and every use which is kind of a pain. Mine even tells me "to clean Roomba's right wheel" or clean Roomba's brushes etc. It is kind of funny to have your vacuum talk to you. I love it though as I don't have to haul my big vac up and down the basement stairs anymore. It takes the Roomba about an hour to completely clean my basement. And it goes under my big easy chair and couch which is great.

I adore "Stanley", my Roomba! Like others have said though, it does not replace regular vacuuming (for that I would recommend a Dyson Animal - it's amazing what that picks up!).

Stanley stays in the basement, and he goes for a run every morning. We have a cat and a dog, and it's amazing what it picks up. It's great too in that it gets under furniture without you having to move it! Even better, is that since Stanley came to "live" in our house (this spring), I have not seen ONE spider in the basement! The daily vacuum has apparently kept them all way, which is a HUGE plus for someone who is as freaked out about spiders as I am!!

The Roomba Discovery and slightly larger Discovery SE are iRobot's second generation of robotic vacuum cleaners. The Roomba works like a bristle broom. It mostly bristles up the big stuff and vacs the dust. It's light weight makes it easy to handle, and I am certain saves the battery.
