Thread: When do you shop for groceries?
-

I was curious as to when you guys shop for groceries? Or do you go several times a week, or try to make it a one time trip?
I've noticed that Saturday and Sundays are chaotic at grocery stores. And that I have to wait in line for a much longer time. You also have to get there early to get good produce. Shopping in the evening sometimes is not that great, because there is limited selection in produce. Anyone have any pointers or tips as to the best time to shop? This thread is currently associated with: N/A

- Avoid shopping on the weekend.
- Shop later in the day
- Try shopping at grocery stores like Sobeys, that are open 24 hrs, then you can choose to go whenever you want.

Some Sobeys are opened 24hours? Too bad I can't seem to find them where I am, what a bummer!

I try to shop weeknights, but will make an early morning stop if I'm in the area.

In my city, the best time to shop is definitely around 9 a.m. weekdays. Depending upon the stores and how they do things, you can find marked-down meat and bakery items, so that's a huge plus.
Unfortunately, I've been without a car, so I haven't been able to do this any more, and WOW do we notice a difference - in a bad way. Shopping in the evenings is a big disadvantage when you want the sale items in most stores, because often there is no, or little, stock - so sometimes end up with rainchecks, but sometimes too loose out on dated specials.
But just for regular groceries, it's wonderful to go here to the Co-op or Safeway on a Saturday evening - hardly anyone there at all, it's just lovely!
As for Saturday shopping here, it's nuts. Have to go first thing the stores open to avoid the massive crows and crazy people - and to get sales items, of course. Otherwise it's like a contact sport, and waiting in lines forever.
Just my two cents....

We (DS and I) go usually first thing in the morning (9:00 - 9:30am) during the week. Any day is fine. If I really really want a sale item, I'll go first thing on a Friday morning.
We also do our huge shop once a month, and then go in once a week for fresh produce. That has helped us to cut costs significantly because we have a month-long set out meal plan.SwagBucks.com - the premiere digital dollar. Earn SwagBucks to redeem for great prizes. Amazon.ca are available here!

I agree weekday mornings I find the best deals, I try to not shop on weekends but sometimes I have to play the bumper car and cart games.

I try to go shopping in the morning, but if there is some big sale or promotion, it doesn't matter what time I leave at, it's busy and the product is either gone or almost gone. Night is the best time to go to superstore if you don't need fruit or veggies though, that's the best time to find discounted bread, cakes, ect

Usually sunday mornings or saturday afternoons. It's hard to find good produce on weekend evenings though =(

The Metro stores in my area are also open 24 hours.
I love going really early in the morning when there's hardly anyone in the store and the overnight replenishment crew has fully re-stocked the shelves...you can actually buy what you want in the quantities you want.
There's also much less chance of a lineup at the checkouts
