I really wish I had read this thread a few weeks ago. When I went to buy a SDM gift card the cashier wouldn't take my optimum card, she said you don't get points for buying gift cards.

If I understand this correctly, I get points for buying a SDM gift card and then points again when I use the card. Also, you don't get points buying other merchant cards unless it's a promo, is my understanding correct?

Your understanding is correct. You know what... why don't you call SDM customer service (1-800-SHOPPERs) and tell them what happened. I've often heard that problems have been solved quickly and easily that way. It might just be a few regular points but they all add up and if they are applied to your account in this year then they are even more important because it's only the regular points that will get you to PLUS status.

You may have to listen to muzak for a while before you get through but give it a try. It'll probably be worth the time.

I have 67000 and need 7000 more points to reach the 75000. I had ordered some prints and 2 photobooks, and wanted to get some perfume. I'm planning to use my optimum points to get them for free

Any idea on how to 7000 points easily and quickly?

Do they sell Prepaid Mastercard/Visa cards at SDM? Need to buy a gift for a cousin.

You can get 7000 points quickly by buying $700 worth of SDM gift cards.

The best way to do it easily is to participate in a bonus points event when it is happening. Check your flyer.

If you want to buy a prepaid Mastercard/Visa at SDM you have to go see if they have them in stock. Sometimes they do and sometimes they don't. If you were hoping to get some bonus points for that kind of purchase, I don't think there is an event like that happening right now.

Check the flyer for the next week. I think there was a bonus points deal happening in the next flyer.

You don't normally get bonus points on the purchase of gift cards unless there is a gift card promotion. You do get regular points for SDM gift card purchases. Read the fine print when the flyer comes out

I think here in NS they call it Healthwatch? They're just regular Optimum points. Not every province gets points on prescriptions, but we do, even if the total amount is covered by insurance!

In contrast, I had a prescription for wrist braces a few years ago, and had to go to Lawtons instead because i needed a 'home healthcare' location that SDM didn't have at the time. Lawtons does Air Miles, but would not give me any BECAUSE my prescription was covered by insurance.

That almost never qualifies as your $50 purchase in cases like this, although it's good to buy one before you spend your $50 - earn regular points on the GC purchase!

Also, when you cash in your points, you still have to pay the tax. So buy a GC ahead of time that will cover the tax.
