Using Deals as Christmas Gifts

Does anyone get awesome deals and then put baskets together for in-laws and grandparents?
My grandma is widowed now and I thought that a gift basket of stuff she uses is a good idea.
And I thought about making a gift basket for my hubbies parents. Essentials, razor, body wash, shampoo etc.

What else would you put in them?

Has anyone else done this and it gone over well?

I havent but plan on doing it this year with the bargains I have been getting....I am too putting essentials...& will probably add in some smellies plugins or candles or possibly both...

i think it is a great idea.
I would have loved a basket like this ( before finding SC) Now I have enough deodrant, shampoo and body wash for a year...LOL

DW and I are going to visit friends in Vermont next week and we will be bringing them a nice basket full of goodies we got through deals and coupons. DW even picked up a beautiful woven basket at Winners for almost nothing. With a little bit of wrapping, ribbons and TLC it will look fabulous.

I will do it this year with the glade sense and spray, plus all the other stuff I have picked up. Such as glade and febreze candles, etc. I have so many of the febreze apple/spice candles right now my place is starting to smell like a bake shop or something.

My 23 month old son knows the closet where all my smellies, soaps, shampoos are stored and sometimes he hangs on the doorknob so I will open it, he then grabs stuff and brings it to his nose for a good sniff.

I think it's a great idea, and you can customize them for the person receiving them - they can be very thoughtful.

I always think of Amy Dacyzyn, the Frugal Zealot, saying that she would rather get a huge roll of aluminum foil or package of toilet paper for Christmas than some sweater (or something like that - it was the foil that stuck in my head), because it would be much more useful and thoughtful.

You will make much nicer baskets than that, of course, but practical stuff (unless it's from the DH if you haven't agreed on it beforehand) is always great!

I'm not using them for baskets but I do have a lot of stockings to stuff every Christmas for my family and my inlaws. I'm looking at about 12-15 stockings altogether!

Here are some of the things I'm planning to put in them this year:

1. Glade red candles/diffusers from the MIRs - I traded for 10 of them and plan to put those in the stockings for the girls.

2. Gilette Fusions for the guys

3. Satin Care for the girls.

4. I always get a Toblerone for my DH's stocking every year, this year I'm going to use my coupon that gets me $1 off fresh fruit at the same time.

5. Lots of Dove chocolate if I ever end up trading for these coupons.

6. Glade Sense and Sprays x2 - if they fit in the stockings!

7. A while ago, Olay Body washes were a good price at No Frills using our coupons and I stocked up on those too for the girls.


I've also been keeping a close eye on the SDM/WM clearance sections for more items.

Just a note for crossing the border with gifts. - Best to use clear wrapping paper or wrap them on the other side. The border people may ask you to show them what's inside.

That's what I'll be doing this Christmas. I got a bunch of baskets from Canadian Tire 2 wks ago for $1.32, they're awesome baskets!

I think it is a great idea.....I find seniors love food items. I stuff my moms stocking at Christmas full of food stuff that she would not normally buy (almonds/smoked oysters/biscotti) You could make baskets full of products that they might use every day and round it out with food goodies. I find seniors are much more practical and appreciate that...they tend to have very little on their want lists.
