SPECIAL WEATHER STATEMENT
Issued at 05:24 Tuesday 27 November 2018
Rain, snow, and wind expected for late Wednesday into Friday.
A low pressure system will approach from the southwest Wednesday afternoon and slowly track eastward just south of the island Thursday into Friday. Rain, snow, and strong northeasterly winds are expected to spread across Newfoundland Wednesday evening.
While it is too soon to forecast specific amounts, it is anticipated that highest snowfall amounts will occur over eastern and central areas of the island, especially inland and over higher terrain. Significant accumulations are likely.
Wind warnings are also possible for most areas beginning Wednesday night.
Parts of eastern Newfoundland and the northern Avalon Peninsula should also be advised that higher than normal water levels are possible Thursday afternoon and storm surge warnings may be issued.

Precipitation will change to snow, at times heavy, this morning but may remain as rain along parts of the coast. Strong northeasterly winds with gusts up to 100 km/h will combine with the snow to produce reduced visibilities in blowing snow today and tonight.
Coastal areas will receive a mixture of snow and rain with variable snowfall accumulations. Snow will be more dominant inland and over higher terrain, with totals expected to reach 15 to 25 cm by Friday morning.
Conditions will improve during the day on Friday.
