BLIZZARD WARNING
Issued at 15:59 Monday 31 December 2018
Blizzard conditions with gusty winds and visibility frequently near zero in snow and blowing snow are expected or occurring.
Snow, at times heavy, is forecast to develop Tuesday night and will continue through Wednesday into Wednesday night. The heavy snowfall will combine with strong winds to produce blizzard conditions with near zero visibilities in snow and blowing snow.
Strong southeasterly winds will accompany the snow Tuesday night with gusts reaching up to 100 km/h along exposed areas of the coast. Snowfall amounts are expected to reach 10 to 20 cm by early Wednesday morning before winds shift to strong northerlies.
Blizzard conditions will persist through Wednesday into Wednesday night as north to northwesterly winds continue to strengthen, in combination with more snowfall. Latest guidance indicates potential for an additional 10 to 20 cm or more by Thursday morning, resulting in storm totals possibly exceeding 40 cm over some areas.
