Repair service for eye glasses.

Hi everyone,

I am in need of some help, or rather my mom is. Her prescription eye glasses frames broke today. The frames are metal and I was wondering if it was possible to get these repaired instead of having to buy a new pair of glasses.

*(The glasses are broken on the round part that holds the lens. So the lens has popped out. My dad tried to crazy glue it together but it didn't work. The frame is metal and will need to be soldered. )

We went to Lens Crafters and they don't repair glasses and insisted that she had to purchase an entire new set of lenses and frames. She cannot afford this.

In desperation we even tried to book an appointment with her optometrist but his office is booked solid until mid September due to the back to school rush.

She is now wearing her old glasses which are 6 years old! It has already been a day and she is feeling ill (dizzy, headache) from wearing the outdated prescription.

What should we do? Any quick and/or cheap solutions?

It depends on where they are broken. Any repair on glasses will more than likely be temporary. Where are they broken? Nose bridge? Arm?... This will help people give you suggestions.

Walmart will do it, they may or may not charge you for it, just bring them in and they'll assess the damage and tell you if they can fix them or not and how much it will cost. At walmart they fixed my son's for free, but they said they usually charge a fee (about 20.00) still cheaper then buying new ones

I would try Amybee28 suggestion first.
If they still make the old frame, you could just get that and insert the old lenses. Other than that, maybe a different frame that fits the lenses.

yep, this is exactly what happened to my sons glasses, and walmart did something to fix it. give them a call, they may do it, who knows?

tracking down a replacement part might be hard. go back to where she purchased them to see if she can find the same manufacturer's parts.

otherwise there have been a couple of posts a few months back from some SC'ers who purchased VERY inexpensive glasses from websites. their posts seemed to indicate they were happy with the products. i bookmarked one of the sites.

is the screw missing? that happened to me twice, but luckily i've found the screw and put it back in. check dollar stores, they might have glasses repair kits with a bunch of different sized screw, and a mini screwdriver and a magnifying glass.
