OFFICIAL weekend of the 27/28 - what did the cashier say to you BRAG thread

I am loving this thread! Very amusing and informative. Here is my experiencefrom a week ago: I usually go to walmart and do my grocery shopping around 9 pm on saturday evening. (It is very quiet then, and I find no one gets irritated when I take forever in the check out line. Unfortunately,I had to go to the grocery store with my 2 year old. (Not a good idea). So I had to go earlier, so that I didn't interfere with his bedtime. He decided to cry through the entire store. So I gave him his juice, he didn't want it, I gave him a cookie, he didn't want it. Needless to say it wasn't a good experience. As a result the looks started pretty soon into my shopping experience. I didn't have a choice this time I had to press on. I am new at this so it took more time than I wanted it to take and AJ was in no mood to cooperate. I finally got to the Cash register and had everything organized, sales flyers with grouped items to PM from each particular store, cps on top of each item. I even stood back and made sure that there was no one else that would be lining up before I got in line. So I get into line and spotted the mini M&M's. I got AJ out of the cart and gave him the M&m's (amazingly the crying stopped) and started the process of pointing out items in the sales ads to the cashier. I hand't been in line for 1 minute before everyone else in the store decided to check out all at once!!!! It turned out the lady at the cash had never done PM's and wasn't very familiar with coupons either. Within 2 minutes the line behind me had about 8 people in it. But AJ was being good, just eating his M&M's and circling my cart. Thankfully the cash lady was patient, and I was patient with her while she was learning. I slowly started to notcie all the people behind me were getting angry and started changing lines, all but the people directly behind me. Fianally after about 20 minutes everything was price matched coupons were rung in and it was time for me to pay. I paid $150 for over $400 dollars worth of groceries. The Cash lady was stunned. She actaully thanked me for coming to her line. she said "I will never forget how to do this now, I just got the best crash course in PMing and coupons ever!" I smiled and thanked her fro being patient with me. But there was still the people right behind me who refused to go to a different line. After we finished I stepping to the side to put AJ's coat on him and try to wipe some of the sticky mess that was all over his face and hands and I noticed the lady who was behind me walking straight to me!!! NOt sure what was going to happen next she said to me "Do you know how refreshing it is to see a young mother so intent on saving money? Props to you!" I just smiled and told her that with a family of 5 it was the only way to make things work and that it is was irresponsible of me not to save money if I had the opportunity to." She then said "no seriously, I would stand in line behind you any day to see that again, to many people your age are just irresponsible with money and the spend it like there is no tomorrow. I am seriously impressed." I just smiled and thanked her for her kind words and for being patient with me, and home we went feeling like I had conquered the world.
Just so everyone knows, I am really not that young, I am pushing 35. but to the older lady behind me you would have thought I was 20

Thanks for sharing, badkins!! I wish I had been using coupons since I was 20... I would have saved MILLIONS by now...

The best yet was yesterday at Atlantic Superstore. My receipt was as long as my leg! I didn't care... I had used $112.50 in coupons yesterday... as someone pointed out.. that's an entire coupon train!!! LOL

Just a word of advice... and I never seem to learn... watch your cashier because mistakes can easily happen!!!

And here's my question to missbobloblaw:
To my undestanding you have to spend $250 to get $25 GC. After your coupons the total is less than $250 and you still get the GC?? If this is true then it is great. I've learned something new

Yes- coupons are considered as tender (like money) Your total has to be $250 before taxes to get the gift card. I'm like a crazy coupon lady to organise a shop to get the gift card. (I'm saving gift cards for a no OOP Christmas again- TTD: $255)Usually I save at least an extra 40% ontop of sales pricing. Also...if the flyer coupon is for a physical item (like a rice cooker) the cost of the item can go towards your total because the coupon is technically a FPC! (I do this frequently as well!)hope that helps!

I didn't know this! I've never bothered with sales where they say "spend so much and get a GC" because I always thought it had to be the certain amount before taxes and coupons deducted. So say I had to spend $50 and I used $40 worth of coupons, physically spending only $10 cash....I would still get a GC?

Well, this weekend I went to my local SDM, usually pretty good with coupons (considering how I use all of my FPCs there ). I noticed that Revlon nail polish was 30% off, so $4.99. But I also saw a display of new spring shades of nail polish, no sale sticker. I asked the cashier to check the price, $7.49. So I went back to make sure that it should be 30% off, and when I asked the lady to ring it in, I told her that it should be 30% off.
She said, "no, the computer does it. it is automatic. $7.49 is the sale price."
"um it says right here that it is 30% off. and all the other nail polishes are $4.99"
"it says selected types."
"so? it's nail polish. ALL the other nail polishes are $4.99"
"the computer automatically takes it off. do you want it?"

so obviously i didn't. I thought I deserved the SCOP.
but instead i was quite mad. oh well, i'll let it slide. revlon goes on sale a lot. i guess i didn't feel like dragging the manager out there, considering how the cashier in the lane over was one that I guess must be tired of taking my coupons, judging by the look on her face.


on the other hand, before that I went to walmart. it was snowing outside so i guess not a lot of people came. the male cashier was really chill with my 2 PMs and 3 coupons for my 3 items.

Got a St. Ives full sized scrub, and a travel sized scrub, and a superstack can of Pringles for ~$2.24!

Love this thread. I get comments from cashiers all the time that make me giggle, but my favourite was when a cashier commented,"that is the most organized coupon binder I've ever seen." And then she does a double take and says, you must be Mrs.X, which I am. Apparently someone else had gone through her till and told her about my coupon binder, I just coincidentally happened to pass through the same till days later. My almost 10-yr old daughter told me later that she was so embarrassed that I was recognized by my coupon binder!

This weekend's cashier comments:
1) At No Frills - where I like everyone else bought the Egg Creations, Tetley, etc
Cashier: These coupons would make these free
Me: Yes, isn't that great
Cashier: Yes...it is... if I can do it. Can I do it?
Me: Why don't you try?
Cashier: Ok.
LOL.

2) At LD - one cashier insisted on calling up the stores that I was pricematching. Every.single.item. Took forever. My favourite cashier at that store came later to open a till to serve the other people waiting behind me graciously (didn't get any dirty looks).
Cashier: We have to call and make sure they have everything in store. All the time, no exceptions. All of us cashiers do it with no exceptions(and then turns to my fave cashier), right, so-and so?
Fave cashierwith a straight face) all the time.
She's never called any store to check inventory anytime she's served me at the till.
LOL. (and yes, I know it's their policy to call but it's up to them and certainly not required everytime since 90% of the time they don't call).

I must say though, the cashiers were pleasant, the people in line were as well, so I enjoyed my shopping this week.

If it was new spring shades, and no sticker on it , it probly meant last seasons colours were on sale but not the newer ones. I don't think scop would apply. Ive seen this very often, older seasons things on sale and on the tag it reads select colours or select products.

hah.. yep i love this thread too.. dont really have any stories myself as im still only saving 10-20$ a store with coupons, im still learning, but it feels so good when the cashiers are impressed with your savings..(I have had a couple FPC and my cashier was flabergasted, wanted to know where i got them and how amazing they were!! it was only for airwick motion sensors but still..lol) as for people behind me in line.... i really dont care what anyone thinks.... im never going to see them again, and if there is another til for them to go to, they can use it if they dont want to wait! i dont see a sign that says "checkout must = 2 minute max! ) lol and using coupons is not a crime =) im proud to be saving money!

I have never been hassled by a cashier over coupons: my husband jokes that it's probably because my arms are so covered in tattoos - wrists to shoulders - that cashiers are too afraid to hassle with me.

LOL. I'm a nice person and if a cashier ever put a fight, I would just walk away anyway.

My philosophy: if you don't want the coupons, I don't want the products. I'll walk out of the store, find another store that will accept them, and you can bear the burden of returning the items to the shelves.

I go to the till with my ususal ginormous stack o coupons...

Cashier: "wow! You must like games alot!"
**as I load 12 games on the belt**
Me: "nah...I like getting them for free!"
(as I hand her 12 coupons for $10 off boardgames)
Cashier: "well...if you don't like games why buy them?"
Me: "To insulate my house."

Went to LD the other night w/ $73 in coupons, and 5 Price Matches.

My cashier turned out to be the manager :D He asked no questions, even when I got 2 Venus Travel Kits for $0.97 All In.

Then I went to Save-On, had all expensive items (tenderloin steaks, organic fruits and veg. for my little guy) Saw the Knorr $1 coupon booklet, and took MAYBE 10. Two floor people came up to me, and said HI! CAN I HELP YOU?!?

A Lil insulting, considering I know they use that technique for shoplifters (I used to work at SDM)... $70 spent in their store, and they begrudge me $10 of FREE coupons... Hmmph.
