It can be anywhere from a few minutes to 30 days. Auto-approve is set to 30 days, so if something is pending for a long time, you're pretty much guaranteed it will be approved after a month.
One of the best things you can do when you're just starting out is to use Firefox and install turkopticon. It adds a little arrow beside the requesters, and you can check to see if they have positive or negative feedback.

tried this for the first time last night - woke up to 4 cents in my account!

I had to rewrite a sentence, and the requester said it was well done!
I feel like I got a gold star or something. LOL

yep, it was his!
I'm going to have to take some time to research all this - I see that there are scammers as well, and that you need to choose reputable requesters - I've read this thread, and made a list of recommended ones, but still find it confusing!
I want the mindless tasks that I can do while watching tv LOL

Hah. Don't we all! This forum is great: http://turkers.proboards.com -- good for discussing different requesters.

Yea retail data was great. In October they had a ton to do and I ended up making $672 from them in three days working about 3 hours a day. It was great! If you like John Gaddy you should consider content galore as well they offer $1.80 to write a 150-350 word article on a topic and they approve and pay the same day!

I got to do some retaildatas yesterday about 10...and again it took my qualification away for "average work" wtf...I spent like 10 minutes doing one of the damn categorization and checked all their category pdfs....and they still call that average work...

If those are the ones i'm thinking about it's the one for 10 cents and you have to choose the category for the image right? I tend to stay away from those as I've heard they've been giving people a hard time about them. I do the "does this product belong in the category" I love those and can do those really quick.
