According to the story in the ad, the ditzy stereotype of a secretary was afraid of machines & refused to use the new toy. Her boss got annoyed, issued her an ultimatum. Being the good sport she was, she fell in love with the toy & now has so much time on her hands that she can waste hours in the girls room gossipping. Clearly not a politically astute move.

Oh & to emphasize the point that the toy belongs to a female, she's put a big pink ribbon on it.

Apparently, this made the boss feel rather emasculated & instead of becoming a metrosexual, he is now plotting homicide.

If this is what passed for literature in that era, well, it might explain the lack of literacy amongst some young folks today.

I had not heard of Roninsons before I lived in Ottawa. I believ it was at or nrear Billings Bridge.. I can't believe I remember that.
I do believe there was a Towers department store in Montreal, thought I can't recall going there. I remember radio ads for it.

It was so sad and I found myself actually getting teary-eyed when Keith Colburn, captain of the Wizard, had a little ceremony, packed a pot in tribute to Phil and rang the ship's bell 8 times (nautical slang for "the end").

It's a TV show for pete sake and I started welling up!!!!
It's more a documentary with real people, real lfe and real deaths. Since the show has aired there have been aproximately 8-9 deaths associated with the actual ships shown. It's one of the shows I never miss an episode of. Phil Harris was one of the most popular of all the captains

Robert Simpson( Simpsons) joined up with Sear's Roebuck in the 50's. New stores were called Sears during the 70's. The bought out Simpsons in the late 70's but competition laws forced them to give up any interest in Simpson Sears that Simpsons owned. The chain was renamed Sears Canada mid 80's. The Simpsons stores were absorbed by the Bay in the early 90's. Sears bought the bankrupted Eatons in 1999. Simpson-Sears was in Canada. In fact it started in Canada.
