Nothing free today but I have a question and thought some of you coupon experts can help:
When you have a free product coupon, is the store supposed to charge you tax on a taxable free item? I think Shoppers doesn't because they use a coupon code that takes off the tax but I find that sometimes Walmart does not and other stores like RCSS, Freshco, and Food Basics usually charges the tax on a free item.

I grumbled and paid. This is the main reason I always do any FPC's at RCSS on their no tax days, but these " one day only " coupons that we have had lately cramp my plan! ha ha

All FPC's are tax free according to the government. Certain staff and stores are more knowledgeable and so I take my FPC's there or show them a copy of the government rules.

I know that non-FPCs have that fine print about applicable taxes-they are based on the retail price, not the price after coupon. I anticipated that with the $5 off EmergenC coupon this week.

Once I had to pay tax at Shoppers for a Canada Dry FPC (remember the raspberry ginger ale promo about two or three years ago?) because the cashier was different from the other one that allowed the FPC without taxes the first time.

Had no tax issues redeeming the FPC on Friday for the Minions product at Fortino's.

update: I had the taxes paid returned to me today at WM. Manager and CS gal both were so very apologetic and nice. They are bringing this up at their next meeting as I told them there is another FPC day this Friday 24th so be prepared for customers coming in to redeem them!! I have no idea why I thought I had to pay the taxes, I was so wrong.

@walkonby I do the same thing as you, I try to use the FPCs on no tax days at RCSS too.
BTW, I am glad you got one of the free bar today. I went to 3 different stores and was not able to find any. I actually wanted to try it.
